"Some confusion over a previous tweet: Andre Miller to Por wd be sign+trade. They're hoping to sign Hedo straight up."

I would think Outlaw gets traded for a backup PF somewhere if we include Webby for Miller. Also, don't forget about Batum at backup SF.

Doesn't our 3 million dollar trade exception allow us 3 mil difference when trading players?

I would like to see us either get Sessions or Miller...Both can penetrate and aren't afraid to attack the basket. I would like Nick Collison, MyDyess, or Joe Smith as the sub for LA...Who knows, maybe Pendergraph's ready...I don't want Hedo because I think Martell will be ready for the season, I have hope! We're set at small forward if he heals...Also, it depends on whether the Blazers are going to try to compete for a title this year or not...Many teams have gotten better overall...I would put us right now before additions probably four in the West behind the Lakers, Spurs, and Nuggets. Rockets and us are very close but we will add a veteran at pg and pf. I hope we don't add another 3. Bottomline is that this team has succeeded sooner then planned which is causing Blazer fans to swing for the fences...If we wait with what we have other than adding some toughness...We will be the top team in the league by 2011. If that's not soon enough for you, you are being babied and have unrealistic goals for good character guys who make up the youngest team in the NBA! There I'm done!

I think if we are under the cap we don't get the TPE.

I'm pretty sure we do get it. Except we can only use it to acquire a player that costs 3 million or less straight up. It isn't added to our capspace, nor can we package it to take on an additional 3 million in a trade.

That math makes sense. McDyess, Miller, and Hedo would be a solid summer. A VERY solid summer.

Miller/Bayless
Roy/Rudy
Hedo/Batum
LMA/McDyess
Oden/Joel

I would love that lineup.

I know the math makes sense. Thanks

It's people that are confusing 50 million for 5 years with 10 million per year that are wrong.

My question is this. If we sign and trade for Miller, the sign Hedo and have no cap room left do we them get out MLE?

No. If a team is under the cap they lose the TPE. I believe it comes back to you though if you go over the cap before it expires

No, we won't get the MLE.

Hrmm. I should check the CBA, confusing stuff. :S

You have to renounce the MLE at the start of the free agent signing period, or else it counts against the cap.

You can't "un-renounce it" once you go over the cap. So you have to decide at the start of the free agency period and that's the end of it for that year.

Hm. That would then require Portland sending more than just Blake because Hedo, at this point, will eat all of our cap space. And, I highly doubt Portland's going to throw Claver, Koponen, or Freeland into a deal just to create a sliver more of cap space. Their future value will prove higher than that. They certainly won't renounce them IMO. Philly would not take Webster until they've seen him play and Portland shouldn't trade him with his value low.

It would have to be Blake and Outlaw heading to Philly.

Hedo wants 50 for 5 years, not 10. 50 for 5 years starts at about 8.5 per year. Hedo at 8.5 - Outlaw at 4 = 4.5. Blake and Webster = a little over 9 mil per I believe. I have no idea what Miller is looking for, but I think 8 is a safe number. But even if it's 9 and it cancels it out that leaves us 3 million. Renouncing Freeland and Koponen give us another 1.6 million. So now we have 4.6 million.

Hmm, maybe someone with a grasp on how the cap works can take it from here. At some point if something equals something you get your MLE back

If you want your available capspace to pursue lopsided trades or sign free agents you have to renounce your various exceptions (the diogu exception, the MLE, the bi-annual, etc.) before you sign free agents, so there's no getting the MLE back until next season.

Edit: Damn I should have kept scrolling down, I shoulda figured Minstrel or somebody would beat me to it.

Now I am starting to think that Hedo is a good pick up. He can solve out backup PF problem too, while getting him the minutes he would want.

Miller\Bayless
Roy\Rudy
Hedo\Batum\Webster
LMA\Hedo
Oden\Joel

This is assuming Outlaw and Blake get traded however needed to get Miller and Hedo.

I'd still prefer Kidd to Miller.

If we land Hedo and Miller, we are really only missing one thing: backup PF.

With Chicago's draft of Johnson and Gibson, Tyrus could be attainable.

He's only 22 (going on 23), his shotblocking and rebounding would be extremely valuable off the bench.

I'd go after McDyess. McDyess is at an age where he probably wants to come play for a contender, and he was the 8th best rebounder in the league. He's also much better offensively than Thomas, who is a clutz offensively.

If we landed him, we'd have 3 of the top 10 rebounders in the league on our team!

Prob won't come here. Prob will go to LA/Orlando/Cleveland/Boston/San Antonio. He's ringchasin'.

Boston and SA are not good places go to "ring chase", but after Portland gets their new FAs, they are in the mix as well. We're going to be competing for a title next year, not just to make the playoffs. We are a ring chasing destination.
