Built to Rise - Meyers Leonard Mini Documentary

It's a self-indulgent, marketing video. That deserves to be called out all of the time in all walks of life, for everybody.
Personally, I'm OK with self-indulgent films, as long as I know they're that. The License to Lillard videos were marketing videos, too, and I still go back and watch those sometimes.

Here's another promotional video for the boards, also by egpdx:

Making player documentaries is a business tactic. As a professional athlete, Meyers has every right to use whatever resources are available to increase his public exposure. Dame did it. Probable the NBA player that has made the most use of self made documentaries is Jeremy Lin.

Lin made his first documentary while he was still at Harvard, before the draft. However, he still went undrafted. But he did create enough buzz to be invited to play in the summer league for Dallas.

Lin has made several more documentaries since the draft. An undrafted player successfully sold himself to the fans nationwide. He created a brand, which resulted in increased earnings.

Lin’s documentary tactic was a little different than Meyers; he used a lot of clever humor to sell himself. But the documentaries worked. Many BB fans beyond his own team became aware of him, and his fan base increased. He has been paid well by several teams despite only having backup player skills.

Not sure why anyone would hold a grudge against any professional athlete for trying to improve his families life. Meyers documentary is a more professional way of gaining public exposure than doing something criminal, such as beating his wife.

There is waaaaaaaay too much hate in this world. Hating on a player that is trying to improve his family’s life is not why I am a Blazers fan.

I'm not much if a fan of him as a player. A dude who plays for our team is talking about his life story and all the things he's had to go through and you say you knew it was a "waste of time" when you heard a quote saying how important a good mentality is.

Even though I might not like a way a Blazer plays, I will support them, as a player and as a person, and want them to succeed. I'm not gonna call them taking about their struggles and the things theyve had to go through as a waste of time or say some shit like "you gotta be kidding".

I don't really care about his struggles or successes or personality or life off the court. The only player that has ever made me somewhat care about him off the court is Dame and that's just because he's pretty much one of a kind. If you want to think that caring about his childhood and marriage or whatever makes you a better fan than me go right ahead.

Meyers on court demeanor drives me crazy, as painful to watch as his game. He tries to act like a tough guy but it looks so fake.

It's kind of funny, especially when he's seen coaching from the bench. Like dude, you're about as lost as it gets when you're on the court, maybe fix yourself first. Then again, he's being a good teammate, so I don't know.

Wow.....I'm one of the most cynical...and even jaded....individuals I know in this life, but Jeezus H.....some of you guys are seriously harsh. You make me look like Little Mr. Sunshine. The kid fought through a ton of adversity just to get to the league and because he's not the star that a Damian Lillard is, he's a POS to some of you. How many of you haters have reached YOUR potential in life?? He's a good kid with good values who appreciates the help he's had along the way. He loves our city and state and is glad to be here. So let's go trade him for some self centered horse's ass who will likely hate it here and will bolt the first chance he gets. Win win for everyone, right? Sometimes I'd rather have the devil I know than the devil I don't. Too many posters around here would bitch if they were hung with a new rope......
So you'd rather be unhappily married to an ugly woman who frustrates the hell out of you, than have a brief fling with a supermodel knowing she'll bolt in a few months?

It's not his fault he was drafted WAY too early. It is his fault he refuses to play defense though.

Those who can't do, teach.

He's had five years. This PR stunt is useless, when bread rises better then he does. He has reached his peak. There is nothing to see here.

I'd rather spend my time looking for positives....or even neutrals...than always (always) bending over backwards to find the negatives in virtually everything. There's enough serious negativity in the world other than a ball player who doesn't meet some anonymous fan's personal expectations. Not sure you would understand that.....and I sure wouldn't cheat on my wife, regardless of how she might look just to so I could get a sniff of some shallow bitch that doesn't give a shit about me before or after we fuck.....

Who's cheating? We are talking divorce. Why stay in an unhappy Meyers?

It's not even about caring, it's about showing some respect.

Fans are vicious man. i recently joined the trade him group but still cant hate the guy. it's cool to see people who have so much money still struggle internally because it helps relate to them. it's also a very humbling thing to open yourself up like that to stangers, because people like half this board are ass holes.

those of you who think this is a PR stunt would suck at PR. clearly to get huge all he would have done is claim to be gay. jerseys sales would have gone up by 1000% especially in portland.
