OK weird digression here.

On ESPN (Dailey Dime) they made a very surprising claim: the Blazers are significantly better offensively with Oden on the floor, but significantly LESS efficient on defense.

(IIRC, the numbers they threw out were +11 points per 100 posessions on offense, but 7 points worse per 100 posessions on defense)

Any stat-rats here have a response/answer? Is Joel still that much better on defense - or is this one of those stats that has too much "white noise" to be meaningful?

Joel was much better on defense... last year. Oden was just not that good on defense last year. He was slow and fouled way too much. This year is another story.

Code:
On Floor Year OPPP	PPP
Oden, Greg	2008-2009	1.090	1.174
Przybilla, J	2008-2009	1.025	1.113

Oden, Greg	2009-2010*	0.952	1.138
Przybilla, J	2009-2010	0.985	1.013

*Through 11 games

I'm not sure Oden is better defensively yet than Joel but then Joel is an excellent defender.

2 things about tonights game. Sorry but I had to show the Noah and Rose dunks on Greg in SUPER SLO-MO! They were sick throwdowns! Also, I don't if you guys heard but in the middle of the 4th the crowd started chanting ODEN ODEN ODEN! Gave me goosebumps!

slowing down Miller's reaction to the Oden foul was hilarious...the slow down on that Rudy pass under the basket was awesome too.

9 mins of highlights from tonight's game. About all the good parts if you missed it.

Roy and Miller played a combined 19:30 together, during which the Blazers outscored Chicago 58-39.

"That's great," Roy said. "I'm good with it. I hear everybody is getting mad at me now over this whole Andre thing. I don't know why. ... I never did anything. I've never wanted anything but what's good for the team. It makes me a little sad. But I'm cool."

Hmm..

Interesting. Thanks.

That call was bullshit. It's been a fun quarter to watch otherwise.

(Rudy's second)

Even though the drunk Rice was all up in arms about "no contact"...watching it again, Rudy's body clearly hit his elbow. Good call.

Kind of a weird photo..

Great to see the team flex their muscle and not play down to the opposition.
They've just got to make it a habit now.

That game was a pleasure to watch, and hopefully a sign of whats to become regular play for these guys.

Just havin' some fun.

Great game (against a horrible team with no center).:

Next to us tonight, every team in the league would like a horrible team with no center. But truth be told, Chicago is a decent team that took the Celtics to 7 games in the playoffs last season. This season they have already posted impressive victories against the Spurs and the Cavs IN CLEVELAND. Chicago's center, Joakim Noah, is the leading rebounder in the entire league averaging almost 12 rebounds a game.

Sergio Rodriguez is the YouTube All-Star. In the YouTube league, he's a franchise cornerstone.

According to Canzano, Sergio's "upside is that of Tony Parker or Steve Nash or Jason Kidd."

More:

The franchise is building its future around Zach Randolph, but the Blazers should think hard about abandoning that plan and instead build around the 168-pound passer who someday will go down as the steal of the 2006 draft.

Brandon Roy is an ideal complement to Rodriguez. So is Martell Webster. So is LaMarcus Aldridge. Some of the important pieces are already in place, but the commitment internally to think about Rodriguez as the centerpiece, and not a peripheral player, hasn't yet happened.

Oh we heard.

You pretty much got owned but decided to rework the rules to make you look less ridiculous. That's pretty sad. Not unexpected, but still sad.

You're the one who reworked the rules. Miller has never outscored the starters combined in a single game. Ever. You're the one who's getting owned. Read all of my previous posts. I was clear.

Miller has never outscored the starters combined in a single game.

So what? What's the point? Sergio never scored for a team that has no Spanish players on it... something Miller has done routinely.

I liked and had high hopes for Sergio while he was a Blazer, but the fact is he never panned out. He's just not very good.

As far a Blake... I think Blake is a valuable piece on this team. Yeah he screws up sometimes and can't run a fastbreak... but he spreads the floor and has a great work ethic. When he and Rudy start hitting 3's like we know they can this team is going to look alot better than they have thus far this season. With the Blazer's improved defense + Oden's leaps & bounds growth since last year, this team is going to become a nightmare.

I suspect that those clamouring to get rid of "Blanky" if it ever comes to pass without a suitable replacement will gradually come realize that Bayless is far worse than "Nlake". Bayless will need an Odenesque improvement in his game just to become and average PG, which Blake is.

Pointing it out by making it up?

Wow, I didn't know we could do that.

Stop embarrassing yourself and pull his game logs for his 3 years with the Blazers.

ok

sergio played in 224 games for the blazers. by any reasonably objective measure you want to use exactly one of them was statistically better than last night.
