The irony that gets me, I could see Greenland being important for national security in that the polar ice caps are melting and the artic passage becoming a very important shipping waterway.... But climate change is a hoax according to those in power that are pushing the Greenland annexation.

A Greenland official broke down in tears after a White House meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 14, failed to tame President Donald Trump’s threats against the self-governing territory.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Greenland Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt sat down at the White House with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday in an attempt to ease tension between the nations as the United States ramps up rhetoric about acquiring Greenland by force.

“We didn’t manage to change the American position,” Rasmussen, 61, told reporters afterward, according to Politico. “It’s clear that the president has this wish of conquering over Greenland. We made it very, very clear that this is not in the interest of the Kingdom.”

During a live interview with Greenland's Kalaallit Nunaata Radio in the midst of her own disappointment, Motzfeldt, 53, got emotional about the chain of events.

"We have been working very hard in our department, even though there are not many of us," she told the outlet from Washington, according to a translation by Clash Report. "I would not normally like to say these words, but I will say them: We are very strong. We are doing our utmost. But the last days, naturally... Oh, I am getting very emotional. I am overwhelmed."

She continued: "The last days have been tough. Our preparations and the increasing pressure that has been intense. But I want to say, we are strong in the government. The work is to ensure the the Greenlandic people in our country can feel safe and live securely. We are using all our strength to achieve this as we continue the work."

Trump threatened increased tariffs to punish countries that oppose annexation of Greenland. Which is the entire world.

Trump just announced tariffs of 10% on the 8 nations that sent troops to Greenland.

@Fez Hammersticks is correct. Dumb. US has a military base in Greenland. If Pentagon wants to expand it, they could ask and almost certainly get approval. If US companies want to mine, send delegations to discuss business partnership.
Greenland is big. Biggest island on Earth. But because Earth is round and maps are flat, objects near poles are distorted. They look bigger than they actually are. Greenland is the biggest island and Trump, like a toddler, wants big things. Like a very spoiled toddler, thinks he should be given everything he wants.
Only thing dumber is Republicans and right wing media going along.

This map shows the corrected sizes and shows how further to the poles gives more distortion. Alaska, Canada, Russia shrink and to smaller degree US. In the South on standard maps same error with Antarctica. So far Trump hasn't demanded penguins give him Antarctica.
