Hal Steinbrenner believes the Yankees could be buyers at the trade deadline
21 Jun, 2016 in Yankees News by Delia Enriquez
Coming into Tuesday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies, the Yankees are 34-35, in fourth place in the American League East and trail the Baltimore Orioles by 6.5 games for first place. That would almost give an indication the team is leaning towards being sellers at the trade deadline late next month.
However, Hal Steinbrenner doesn’t see the Yankees as sellers, and believes the team will be buyers by the time the August 1st deadline rolls around.
“I believe we’re going to be right smack in the middle of it by the end of July,” Steinbrenner said to the media on Monday at Cipriani in Midtown Manhattan at the annual Harlem RBI “Bids for Kids” fundraising dinner. “We’ll have to see at the end of July, like we always do. We’ll take a look at everything.
“We’ll see what injuries, if any, we’ve had from here to then, and where the deficiencies are. We’ll go from there. If we stay healthy, I’ve always believed we have a chance.”
Despite the Yankees being a game under .500, they’ve played better baseball in May and June, going 17-13 in May and 10-8 in June. But if the Yankees want to be buyers at the deadline, they’re going to have to play to their potential. And Steinbrenner believes the Yankees can certainty play better than they have the past three months.
“The last month has been promising,” Steinbrenner said. “The offense up and down the lineup is starting to produce. Chase Headley certainly had a rough start. He’s hitting now, and you’re starting to see other guys contribute, too. So I like what I’ve seen the last month. We just have to stay healthy.”
No shit, this team can play better, but will they....? I don't see it happening, and not to be too redundant, but both Tadpole and Trashman have proven incapable of creating a winning Org. IMO....
