(1) We wouldn't even be having this discussion if carter's new deal included a LOWER salary for the 07-08 season.

(2) If Ilic agrees to go to Europe, the buyout could be much less--wouldn't be surprised if he could get a HIGHER salary in Europe than what the nets are paying him.

(3) the only players that will really matter in terms of salary cap/luxury cap are Collins, Magloire, and Nachbar. All else is just noise. BRob, for instance, only gets roughly $1.1 M, so replacing him with someone like Houston still won't allow the team to carry 15 players. They're not going to trade Magloire, obviously. That leaves Collins and Nachbar.

(4) The luxury tax threshold is $67,865,000. According to Hoopshype, the Nets' team salary is currently $65,429,000, with 13 players under contract. that would seem to give them more than $2 M to play with. Are these numbers not correct? They could sign two players at the vets min and still be under the cap, right? What am I missing?

(5) The salary cap is $55,630,000. According to Hoopshype, the only teams under the salary cap--and therefore could make a trade involving mismatched salaries--are Utah, Golden State, Atlanta, Chicago, Memphis, and Charlotte. Utah, GS and Atlanta are within $1,000,000 of the cap. So if you're going to dump Collins on someone, the best candidates are Chicago, Memphis, and Charlotte, unless someone has a trade exception to burn. I honestly don't see it happening.

(6) best hope is that it is not imperative that the team stay under the luxury tax threshold. Who knows; maybe they are willing to go $1,000,000 over.

(7) My suspicion, like Ghoti's, is that Nachbar will not last the season with the team.

Hoopshype did not add correctly it should be 67,297,199. VC took a 4 million salary hit this year. HIs option was for 16 mill this year. The Warriors ahve a 10 million dollar exception for the JRich trade. They should be a good trade partner as they got under the lux tax by moving Foyle earlier.
