Bynum out 3 months

Like some have said, I would much rather beat a full strength team and not listen to excuses of what ifs.

Not me. I'll take beating the Lakers by any means necessary or possible. The Lakers and their fans bitched and whined in 1977 because Kermit Washington and Lucious Allen were injured, and claimed that full strength, they would have beat the Blazers handily in the WCF.

Now tell me, who remembers that? No one, what matters is the Blazers won the ring.

In 20 years (or 10, or 5), no one will remember that Bynum was injured, and that's why the Blazers beat them in the 2nd round of the playoffs. They'll just remember Kobe crying, and the Blazers going on to face the Spurs in the 2009 WCF.

I don't hope for injuries nor am I happy to see them happen to anyone, but I'm happy for the benefit to Portland and the non-Lakers teams.

I feel sympathy for Bynum, though. I'm glad he already got a big payday.

It will be interesting to see how the other western conference teams react to this news. This might spur them into making moves that could (in their eyes) put them over the top. Anytime a team gets weaker, everyone elses chances get better. It may no longer be a foregone conclusion that the Lakers will dust off the rest of the west on their way to the finals.

Talking about karma, we should probably be careful in how we handle this as Blazers fans. Something tells me Greg will spend some time on the injury list again in his career (god forbid that it's a major injury), and I'd hate to have Laker fans have any ammo to rub it in.

As a Blazers fan who knoww how frustrating and discouraging it was to watch Greg in street clothes unable to help us last season, I hope for a speedy revovery for Bynum. It really is terrible to see a guy so young hobbling off the court in great pain, especially when it's to a big mans legs.

yeah. you guys want karma back on greg???

i feel sorry for bynum, i hope this is his last knee injury.

yeah, injuries suck and I hope he heals and plays well again at his level he was playing at or further....

but still..fuck the lakers and their lame fans!

* Grade I MCL Tear
This is an incomplete tear of the MCL. The tendon is still in continuity, and the symptoms are usually minimal. Patients usually complain of pain with pressure on the MCL, and may be able to return to their sport very quickly. Most athletes miss 1-2 weeks of play.

* Grade II MCL Tear
Grade II injuries are also considered incomplete tears of the MCL. These patients may complain of instability when attempting to cut or pivot. The pain and swelling is more significant, and usually a period of 3-4 weeks of rest is necessary.

* Grade III MCL Tear
A grade III injury is a complete tear of the MCL. Patients have significant pain and swelling, and often have difficulty bending the knee. Instability, or giving out, is a common finding with grade III MCL tears. A knee brace or a knee immobilizer is usually needed for comfort, and healing may take 6 weeks or longer.

It sounds like Bynum has a complete tear of his MCL.

If it's a complete tear, he's gone longer. If it's a partial tear (often referred to as a "Grade X sprain"), he could be back. The real question is to how much rust is he going to have to shake off and how will his conditioning be?

I don't see how the partial tear would warrant this length of absense. I still have a partial tear in my left MCL as one of my knee injuries I never had repaired, but when it happened I was back playing ball basically pain free in two weeks. 12 weeks seems like a more severe injury IMO.

Sucks for Bynum and the the Lakers. I hope it makes some of those jackass Laker trolls a little more humble, especially when they were comparing Oden to Bowie.

This donesnt prove anything...healed and ready for NBA bball are two different things

Well, Bynum was upbeat yesterday. Said the injury felt "different" than last year, and that he didn't need crutches to walk . . . he DID after the injury last year.

The aritcle on ESPN says that he won't need surgery this time, and that he might be able to start rehab in 10 days. If that IS true, it's much different than last year.

I don't think you can say he's injury prone. I mean, who WOULDN'T have gone down in a heap after the way Kobe came crashing into him? Come to think of it . . . conspiracy theorist rise up!! Kobe intentionally took Bynum out (after Bynum's recent succession of huge games) to prove once and for all that he DOESN'T need an All Pro Big Man to bring the trophy back to LA. LOL. Well, you know some idiot's thinking that anyways.

Hate to see any player get injured. Hope he's back and playing with no lasting effects.

A byproduct of this is that Kobe now has a better chance to win MVP....which I really dont care about...and would much prefer Bynum out there doing his 25/14/2 he was doing for his last 5 games :sigh:

well bynumb injuried Oden and Wallace....karma man and the lakers havea lot of bad karma to pay up for
