Bynum vs Oden= mismatch?

I really don't see how Oden outplayed Bynum on opening night. Oden did get 5 boards...but that's all he did. He didn't score a basket...something like 0/5 I think. While Bynum didn't play well, he did end with 8 points and also got 3 blocks as well....and considering he is coming off knee surgery and was still shaking off rust, PLUS having a contract negotiation going on...that's not too horrid...not great though by any means.

And I don't take anything personal, don't worry. I realize this is a message board and nothing else.

Bynum scored later in the game, as would Oden have. But how many rebs did Bynum grab? 3 maybe? The entire game??? And Oden was 0-4, by the way. But he was just getting started. What is Bynum's excuse for playing the whole game and only grabbing 3 rebounds?

By the way, I LOVE that Laker fans think they'll beat Boston this year because they have Bynum. The Cs killed the Lakers twice in the regular season with Bynum in the lineup. Bynum was a non factor. Grabbed only 2 rebounds in one of the games. Scored only 4 pts in another.

Bynum= someday, maybe as good as Dalembert.

Well, to our credit, when we played the Celtics with Bynum, we also had no Gasol. That's why we think we can take them. We lacked Gasol when we lost to them in the regular season and then lost to them in Finals when we lacked Bynum. And quite frankly, the biggest reason we lost to them in the Finals was because of a lack strong interior defense, and that's what Bynum can bring to this team, and that's why we think we can take the Celts as well.

And as far as Bynum only grabbing 3 boards in the first game, I don't know what his excuse is, nor do I care. He's averaging almost 9 per game on the season, so he's doing something right. For that matter, I only expect that number to go up, along with the rest of his numbers, when he grows more accustomed to playing with Gasol in the post.

As for Bynum being Dalembert...he's already better. His offense is more polished and I'd venture to say he's a better defensive player than Dalembert.

There was much discussion of the two of them during the offseason. Is Bynum a disappointment? Going into tonight's game, he was only averaging 8ppg, 9rpg. I think we can expect more from Oden when he returns. After all, Oden produced 5 rebs and 1 blk in about a quarter of play. That's 20 rpg and 4 bpg if he plays the whole game. I think Oden will win the battle this season and Bynum has to be considered a disappointment. He averaged 13 & 10 last season and many said that wasn't impressive enough to consider him one of the great centers in the league. At 8 & 9, he's regressed.

there is a reason they play 82 games. You can't just use simple math to project a players stat. Oden has played 13 professional minutes. We can't judge anything. Stop over-hyping everything. Go join a sim league, that seems to be the way you treat the sport. They play the games for a reason; so we can see what the actual stats are, and so we can see if this is a mismatch or not.
