I would expect Stern to send a message with something creative like a 20 game suspension+ suspension from Bynum's next playoff series + big fine + mandatory attendance to the NBA's newly formed Sportsmanship School.

Were he a Blazer I'd quit being a fan. In 4 decades I've not witnessed a worse display of bad sportsmanship combined with cowardice. He should be banned from the league for life. It seems LA attracts the worst people in the world.

Terez Owens (the TMZ of the sports world) says it'll be 20-games and $100,000.

:pimp:

Should be pretty big. He did the same thing o Beasley recently, and was only out 2 games. But considering that 1, he should learn from past mistakes, and 2, his team was getting killed, I think they make an example of him, as they should.

force him to live in beautiful central oregon. :MARIS61:

jk. I say 5 games w/o pay is probably appropriate.

It should be 20 games/$100,000 for the foul, and another 25 games/$500,000 for making us watch his ugly, bare-assed torso walk off the court in utter defiance like some kind of Rodman-clone-douche.

Not that I condone cheap shots.. but I'm at least glad it was Barea

Bynum has a history of multiple similar incidents so I agree it needs to be a very strong example. If it's less than 10 games he'll keep doing this stuff. I would like to see at least 20 games all without pay and if he does anything similar next season make it 50. Artest got suspended for most of a season but those were drunks who threw beer on him, quite different then a guy smaller than most women in a vulnerable midflight position.

I've been very sad with all of Greg's injuries but he has always shown great work ethic and total class while a member of the Blazers. I could never imagine Greg doing some sort of cheap shot like that. I'll gladly root for an injured gimp for the next few years even if he can’t play a single minute, it’s better then seeing an effective douchebag.

I've never cared about off the court stuff with our player and am usually very non-emotional in my views of our players worth. I didn't care about Rasheed's attitude beyond how it affected the team’s play on the court. I don’t care if Blazers smoke weed. I don't care if Qyntel used a rookie card for ID or Zach has big sex parties. But Bynum was a disgrace on the basketball court and I would never want to see him on a team I’m rooting for.

As a Laker fan it was embarrassing how Bynum handled himself. Taking his jersey off afterwards was ridiculous.

He put Gerald Wallace in the hospital with a collapsed lung 2 years ago with the exact same hard elbow to the ribs like that. 20 games seems about right.

20 games is a quarter of the season. I think that's a bit harsh. I say 10 games w/o pay and a hefty fine should suffice.

Ron got dinged especially good because he punched a guy who had nothing to do with the incident.

If this were his first incident, I'd agree with you. Considering it's like his third or fourth, a quarter of the season seems quite in proportion. It's clear that he doesn't care and only levying massive penalties will get his attention.

I like a 10 to 20 game suspension with a nice warning that the next time is 20 to 50. Also Billy Hunter needs to get in and talk to him, the players union should be up in arms about one player purposely trying to injure another player.

I think Bynum should be charged with assault, personally. You do that at your work, you're getting arrested. The intent is clear.

He misses 20 games a year anyways so might as well make it 20 games.

I would bet the stipulation would be that it can't be games where he misses due to health. Not sure how they'd factor that in though.

i would guess 20, he wasnt even pretending to go for the ball

what makes this better than if he just punched him? i think the elbow is actually worse

It would be the first 20 games (or however many the NBA decides on) of next season. It wouldn't be up to Bynum or LA to decide.

The ultimate punishment would be for the NBA to make him re-enter the draft and have the Blazers select him.

I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

He's already injury prone, so what you're saying is that you endorse the death penalty for Bynum.

Interesting.

I agree completely with Shapecity. It was uncalled for and embarassing. But alot of people are really blowing this up like its never happened before. Some HOF have done similar to this....

so if karl malone does it its ok? lol lame dude

and notice how all those guys actually STOPPED THEIR GUY FROM SCORING haha, vagynum wasnt even playing the ball

20 games is fucking ridiculous. The foul was fucking dirty and uncalled for and he does have a prior history of it. However, Raja Bell got only 1 game for clotheslining Kobe and KG got 0 games for punching some dude in the nuts.

5-7 games + a hefty fine is justifiable. Don't let your hatred blur your vision.

Sure. But this is his third offense. He has previously injured two players, on purpose, in the exact same manner, and was trying for the trifecta. I think 20 games is inconceivable. Five games should be the minimum, up to 10 seems plausible, all things considered. And well deserved.

I don't have a problem with the foul IF the game is close and Barea is getting into the paint at will. Basketball is an emotional game and he lost it. He needs to learn to not throw that elbow out. It takes it from being a hard foul to being a fucking dirty foul. I've got no problems with putting people on their asses if they come into the paint at will...that isn't the way to do it, though.

Or maybe he just watches too much Bad Boys basketball.

10 games, not including lock out games and a 250k donation to a battery shelter seems like enough, with a stipulation that the next one will be a year of vacation. he has a pattern of behavior, if punishment won't stop that, the nba really has a responsibility to its employees to keep them safe at this point from uncontrollable players.
