Those contracts are perfectly in-line with how most of free agency goes. If you want guys to come play for you, then you are almost always paying a premium for somebody that another team was willing to let go. The FA market is about middling to slightly above average players getting paid like superstars.
Unfortunately, that Biz does not exist. He's never averaged close to those numbers in any of his 5 NBA seasons. His career bests in each of those categories are: 5.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 1.8 bpg. As I just posted, his "breakout" numbers for this post season, doing most of his damage against a severely depleted MIA team, were: 6.4 ppg, 9.4 rpg and 1.6 bpg.

Since you asked, with a proposed cap of 94M, 15M is 15.957% of the cap. That would equate to 11.17M this past year, or 10M the year before.
unless they both take discounts not a chanceThe plan is Bismack Biyombo and Al Horford. That's the master plan that's up Neil's sleeve.
I was looking at his PER 36 #s.
Here are a few player comparisons in relation to the cap % -Yeah, I'd really like someone to look at Percent of cap. If 15 mil is x % of next year's cap, what is x % of 2 year's ago cap?
There is barely enough money for Al, if he comes then Biyombo becomes impossible. I don't think Horford will join. The plan is Bismack Biyombo and Al Horford. That's the master plan that's up Neil's sleeve.
Unless you are "chasing the dragon" and trying to get to the highest of highs and snag one of the so-called "superstar" free agents that are meant to push you into contention. Of course there are always guys in the secondary market after the initial scrum for the top-tier guys.It doesn't have to be. The two free agents Neil Olshey signed last summer, Ed Davis and Al-Farouq Aminu, were considered middling players. Neither got paid close to superstar money. In fact, the two of them together cost POR $20 million less ($50 million total) than Wes cost DAL ($70 million). And, they BOTH outplayed Wes. Ironically, one of those was a guy we poached from DAL. Cuban had a bargain right under his nose and didn't see it.
Caveat emptor.

Since Portland probably needs one of those top-tier guys to move from "cute upstart" to "serious contender" status, I don't think we're going to get a guy for cheap (if we get anybody in that top-tier at all).
I agree this is the year we swing for the fences. We have the cap space to to it and there are free agents available that would solve our most glaring weaknesses .
I just don't think giving a role player like Bismack Biyombo a max, or near max, contract is swinging for the fences. More like swinging and missing. Biyombo is not the kind of player that would bump us up to serious contender status. Again, a nice role player and I'd love to have him, but I don't see any way to get him AND get also get the kind of top-tier big man we need to make the jump to the next level.

Agreed with this. Although Pek could be hurt for 50 games a year. Still it is close. And that is sad!Honestly, I think I'd rather take Rubio/Whatshisface for cap space than sign Biyombo to a max contract.
That's one hell of a photo . . . CJ's right; Bitchsmack would look good in black and red!Obviously.

That's the problem, the only time he'll ever average 36 MPG is if he's driving a Prius.
Sadly it sounds like he is plan A. Hope I'm wrong. Our chances are higher because he's not that good. If we make him anything higher than a plan G then this offseason will already be a failure. Go big or go home.
That's a great line. If you came with it originally, hats off. Comedy gold!
When did I say going after Biyombo would be swinging for the fences? I'm only saying he's exactly the kind of player that is going to get superstar money in a market like this because he's (overall) above average player (when you factor in defense). I suspect a lot of GMs saw how important Tristan Thompson was to the Cavs winning it all this year and they're going to talk themselves into Bismack being a guy in a similar mold.I agree this is the year we swing for the fences. Pek is definitely injury prone but I have seen nothing that says he won't play ever again. Got a link on that? Rubio has trade value even if you don't keep him. This just shows how bad I don't want to pay Biyombo more than anything about the players in the deal. I not saying I would be thrilled with the trade but I would accept it more than spending most (or even all by some reports) of our dough on a guy who is going to break the bank after one good (half) season like Jerome James.Pek may never play again and he's owed more than $20 mil for his two seasons remaining. Rubio isn't anywhere that good for a team to absorb and stretch a contract that bad.
Biyombo seem like a likely target of the Knicks.
I don't think anyone will be stupid enough to pay him max (22.34 MIL or so) but I bet someone easily pays him 85% of his max. 19.0 MIL in that case a year for him? No thanks! On the radio last night during the draft they were talking to a GM of a team, don't remember what team, but he said that paying biz the max is a good way to get yourself fired.
I would love either of those guys. Our cupboard is pretty bare for trading though. And Henson is definitely staying put if MIL can move Monroe (Henson in my eyes is the better player even, if he would just get the minutes).Make offers for Cauley Stein or John Henson instead of paying this clown IMO.

Another trade I would GLADLY take over signing Biyombo (or Barnes)... if MIL can move Monroe ...
