Ok guys, I'm planning to switch from Comcast to DirecTV. Basically just to watch Setanta Sports because I need to watch the Rugby World Cup from France starting September 7!

My question is to those of you that have had cable and now use DirecTV or those of you that just have DirecTV, how is it?

Do you have any complaints?

How is the Setanta package and the regular Sports package? (FSC, GolTV, etc)

Thanks in advance.

DirecTV is great. It has a bunch of packages that allows one to watch almost any major sports team in the world.

I have DirecTicket/League-Pass for the NFL/NBA and have been able to watch my favorite Indiana/California team for years now.

The only bad part about Directv is of course the problems one can have during bad weather (like any other dish company).

Ok cool, what about tech support and all that? Are they asses in getting your system working once it is knocked out from bad weather or other problems that can occur?

I need that nifty sports package they have along with Setanta. They have GolTV and also MSG from NY. I want to watch the Sabres! lol

Isn't GolTV free.I have it free anyways Direct TV is great i have the NBA League pass and MLB Extra Innings. They come the next day if your dish gets busted or anything like that.

Nah, usually GolTV is only free if you have cable and it is only available in certain areas, which definitely does not include mine. GolTV comes in the sports package with DirecTV. I had a look around this afternoon to check package pricing.

I've had nothing but great customer service with directv. It's never gone out on me or anybody I know with it and they've got great packages (NFL Sunday Ticket).

Ok cool then, thanks everyone, I think I'll make the switch after my final cable payment.

We get it on free to air TV here

What cable companies are there over there by the way? Apart from Directv, and how many channels do you get?

Yeah, yeah, don't rub it in you SOB. lol, j/k bro.

We have Comcast in Chicagoland. Right now I have around 350 channels and could have more, but I don't want the movie channels or NBA League Pass. It costs too damn much though at 80 dollars per month.

350 channels! Our one and only cable provider over here, Foxtel, only has like 80 channels or somthing, and like 20 of those are just unwatchable rubbish (like Russian news, the Weather channel, crap like that)

Meh, 350 channels reads good, but believe me, most of it can all be found on one channel instead of having so many. I'm refering to all that stuff on TLC. Ok, so I like fix-it stuff yeah and the fashion stuff is nice to watch with the fianc?e, but come on now. That stuff is on almost every channel now! Cut me some slack here, please! lol

You get Russian news in Australia? I would assume it is in English, but what in the world do you need that for? Maybe I've missed something here and you guys have a large amount of Russian immigrants? lol

Well I think its Greek news, but yeah, we do have a large amount of European immigrants over here. I actually think there are less channels than I originally quoted too, so Cable TV sucks over here, lol.

I've worked for Comcast for the last 5 yrs.

I get it all for free. But honestly, I'd prob go with Direct TV due to the pricing.

I think Comcast services techs and appts are a bit better and that Direct TV has weather issues sometimes but it's prob minor.

Comcast has weather outages too.

I don't actually recall ever losing our cable from the bad weather ever since Comcast took over in Chicago a few years ago. Before that with Time Warner, they used to go out almost anytime at all that the weather was severe. I'm still skeptical over the whole thing, but I need GolTV and Setanta since my region doesn't carry GolTV and Setanta is only available on satellite networks.

Directv is garbage. Everytime there was a little bit of wind or rain the service went out. I used to live down a road where there were no cable lines, so I had no choice. The best part of moving out of there was getting rid of that crap.
