Can one have a more worthy music opinion than another?

With so many styles of music today, you are going to get so many different music fans that debates are inevitable. Just the other day, I actually saw a style of music called: Neo-Classical Progressive Death Metal. With that said, do you guys think that music can go beyond subjectiviy and one can actually have a superior opinion to another? Is music quality more than simply "What sounds good to you"

Yeah music is very opinionated that way but you could some music is harder to make than other music. Thus comparing them by talent level.

I think there is to a certain extent. I think one that listens to Ashlee Simpson and K-Fed is more of an idiot as far as opinions on music goes, but maybe that's just me.

But I think the musical opinion of the vast majority of people is conditioned, in other words, many people have only heard one style or very few different ones at the most. So with that, it's not someones fault for only liking a certain style if they aren't aware of all the others. However, there are very complex styles of music that require immense talent and training to play yet, they are not very popular at all.

I listen to jazz and classical but yeah I understand why it is not popular. Not catchy tunes and not repetitive. Rock, pop, rap, or something along that line will always be the most mainstream due to it being catchy.

Very good point. It's true, if the song isn't condensed into a 2:30 minute time slot, then it's not going to sell.
