Can we get a Nassir Little appreciation thread?

When do we start having a discussion about Nas and Derrick Jones, and their respective roles on this team?

But yeah, his outside shot is starting to become a legit thing. Obviously he isn’t gonna shoot 60% or whatever he’s at, but I think he could legitimately just be a good shooter now.

At the very least he should take all of Hood mins and some of Jones and RoCo and Melo. He should be playing 20+ mins. I have said this but I will say this again Little is the X factor for team future. Simons is only going to be a scorer, Trent a 3D guy, Collins if ever healthy a solid all round role player. Little got that potential about him. He got that all star potential. His game does remind me a lot of Jaylen brown, Kawhi, and Gerald Wallace. His offense is much further ahead than his defense which is why I am so excited bout him. Btw if I was the coach Little would be my starting SF

If we’re talking just pure all around talent, Nas is one of the best on the team. He really has the potential to be impact on both ends.

Agreed on that. I think playing with the starters and giving him the experience early in games against starting and star-caliber wings on limited minutes will help him unlock that defensive potential quicker. The floor would probably open up for him more on offense as well. I’d probably give him 15-20mins a game, 7-10mins a half, where he starts and goes to the bench for Melo in the clutch. If he gets two quick fouls, play Jones or Hood more.

At the very least, with Hood working his way back into rhythm right now, Little should be taking all of those minutes that would be Hood’s on nights like this where he is out for injury or resting. Suddenly, I don’t care if Hood misses half of our games this year as long as he can play like his old self by the playoffs, more minutes for Nassir will be what’s best for this team down the road. Then when playoffs come around, wouldn’t expect to see him at all until next season, and I’m okay with that.

Amazing what Nas could do after some time away from the great Roy Williams who was clearly holding him back! Dude couldn't shoot for crap at Chapel Hill, but found an upgrade in Portland!

What’s his best position: SF or PF?

He has the Paul Milsap build (pre-Covid)

This dude needs to play every game for atleast 15 min. He might be something real good. If he can work on his dribbles and creating points for himself and of course solid defense that’s close to a max player

Besides Dame, he has more superstar potential than anybody on our team. His three point shot looks absolutely wet. That driving dunk tonight was just so physical and coordinated. He looks like he can become a good defender. Only 20 years old. He's got to get more minutes.

I don't see how Hood or Giles ever takes a minute of his playing time again. Melo is next on his list of guys to surpass.

And hey, Jones Jr, don't get too comfortable.

The last time he took your starting job he hung 30 points on the Bucks. Jones' season high is 14 points.
Covington's is 19.
Melo's is 24.
Kanter's is 24.
Trent's is 28.

If you want to speculate on who our "third scorer" is going to be in the playoffs, it might be this guy.

I've noticed the last two times Nassir entered the game for the first time they immediately ran 3 point shot plays for him, and both plays worked.
That’s what I noticed too. Glad I wasn’t the only one lol. This should speak the coaches confidence in Little jump shot

Perfectly well said

Any reasons we can't start him now?

probably because he's had 6 total games where he scored in double figures, and it's a wee bit soon to be starting him?

I'm ok with not starting him, and even giving him fewer minutes than some of the more established guys. The knock on Little was that he wasn't a real high IQ player and he couldn't shoot. He clearly can shoot, but I'm fine with Stotts bringing him along in a way that molds good playing habits. He's still only 20.

High IQ youngsters like Dame or Batum were should get all the minutes they can handle. But there have been lots of examples over the years (Darius Miles, Webster, Telfair, etc) where we probably would've been better served in the long-term by not forcing things.

His true shooting % is at 73%, and has a 17 PER. Need to see if this is real-- time to give him some minutes.
Wait... didn't you just respond to me yesterday that "PER doesn't mean shit"? Maybe it only does when it fits your argument...

That said, keep it going Nassir! It would be so big for for the team for him to emerge as a quality 3&D threat.

TERRY STOTTS GAVE HIM A CONCUSSION AND COVID!?!?!? What an asshole!

Agreed. We have lots of things we can bash Terry for, no reason to blame him for things that are not his fault.
He has brought Little along just fine.

On a positive note, remember when we said early on if Little ever developed a 3 pt shot he would be just what we needed at SF. We could see it was possible based on his 3 point stroke but it was a little concerning watching his summer league action.
I am sure at some point this season he will go through a slump, but long term it sure looks like Neil got a starter at 25.

Nas has been great. It would be a different story if he were playing 35min a night, probably his deficiencies would be apparent. He makes an impact and that is desperately needed. I would hate to see him dealt.

We need to see what we really have in Nas and give him the playing time to develop his game. It's not like we're loaded at his position so there's literally no harm in it. He could be a 2 way forward who can create his own shot, and has star potential. Which is exactly what a lot of people on here say has been the missing piece for this blazers team for years

Sorry, I shouldnt have been so dismissive yesterday-- I just hate Hassan.

But, we have enough sample size to know Whiteside's PER doesn't translate to in game impact. We have yet to see if it's inflated for Nas as well.
