Can we just admit Arizona is racist now?

You skipped step 2.

You're so eager to pigeonhole me into a structure that has no basis in reality that you missed the part where I'm not calling you a racist.

It's sort of pathetic. :)

How do you know I'm white? Do you know my maternal grandparents?

Ed O.

Oh no wait!!!!!!!!!

This is a very creative twist on step 2.

As for me, I get asked "what are you?" on a pretty regular basis (both about my sexuality (hah!) and my race). Because my mother was adopted and I am totally ignorant about the racial composition of my maternal grandparents: I have no idea. I might be half-jewish. I might be an octoroon. I could be half Native American.

You said people like me are actually the problem.

It's just a different twist on the same 3 part system.

Step 1: "Oh sorry I'm not politically correct"

So... you posted a link from Australia and you posted a blog that is a PC circle-jerk,

Step 2: "My black friends say....."

I'm not very worried about it, because it doesn't change who I am...

Step 3: "You're the one who's actually racist"

It's just silly that so many people have automatic defenses built in that make any questioning of racism racist by definition. Your "three steps" is a great example of that and, in my opinion, why so many reasonable people are taking racism less seriously than they should.

I'm white which makes me a member of the majority in America but I was a minority when I lived in Japan.

I had several landlords that refused to rent to me because I wasn't Japanese, although I read and speak the language fluently.

I also was refused service at a restaurant because the food was "not suitable only for foreigners".

Where you looking for personal accounts by American minorities?

I was, but thanks for the post.

I was, but thanks for the post.

I'm not saying Japan is horrible country or that I was oppressed everyday (quite the opposite) but I was treated worse in some situations because I was a minority (especially on the basketball court!!!!).
My wife has had some less than positive experiences in the states sometimes due to her being a minority sometimes due to the gross impenitence and laziness of Americans

To the OP.

I wish Oregon would adopt what Arizona has.
I just like the idea of protecting our country from illegals. It does nothing but hurt everyone else here for them to utilize our resources illegally. Isn't that the main issue here? Legal citizenship vs illegal citizenship?

Call me crazy, but I am all for LEGAL immigration.... Just not the other way around.

If that makes me a racist in someones eyes, then why do we have the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants.

No. They're not citizens if illegal, nor are they citizens if legal. They're citizens of Mexico or whatever country they came from, unless they apply for citizenship and pass all the tests.

There always has been two distinct statuses for people living here...

I think that if California doesn't build a wall, Oregon should.

This thread was pointing out that they have now made it illegal to teach ethnic studies classes in schools below high school. I probably overreacted a bit on the whole thing, but after the recent law that was passed it doesn't look good.

I personally think this will make Arizona a nicer place to live in the future. Instead of placating everyone, they are taking a hard nose stance. No more illegals, no more advocating classes that cause hostilities towards other races, etc.

Today Los Angeles City Council voted to boycott arizona. The response here is pretty negative towards this complete waste of time. So fucking stupid. Fix our fucking city first before wanting to cripple someone else. Could you imagine if the state of Arizona started telling its residents to Boycott tourism to LA? Don't go to Disneyland? California is royally fucked in the head, not Arizona. In a few years its going to be a bigger shithole.

I assume you would've been one of those who supported Hitler in his quest to make Germany a "nicer place to live in the future" too?

Is it racist that I hate the transportation shown in the following pictures?

If more stuff like this is being done because of illegal immigration, this is enough proof that we need to deport them. Forget the economy or budget deficits, just think of the poor classic american cars. You know that people who build these abortions actually drive them on the roads don't you?

Think those cars are safe? hahahahahahahhaha to those who do

Your big words do not impress me, sir!!

My sister went to Japan one summer, back when she was in college. She was (well, she still is) taller than most of the women there, and blond haired. She said she got the strangest looks over there.

But I think that was because she had a mustache.

bazinga!

Anyways, may I inquire as to why you were in Japan? School? Work?

The healthy, non-veteran, caucasian, American-born male is the most discriminated job-seeker in modern day America by an enormous margin.

Spend a week, hell just a few hours, reading stuffwhitepeopledo and maybe you will begin to understand how minorities are oppressed, how many white people (myself included) are blind to their own White Privilege, how racism is still very much alive (but just not as blatant anymore), and how 35 years of being treated like humans by white people doesn't just magically erase tendencies that were ingrained in us for over three centuries.

A lot of us freaked out on BenDavis for dropping the N bomb multiple times, but just because he was consciously racist doesn't mean a lot of us aren't subconsciously racist as well. We can't just refuse to talk about race, White Privilege, racism, and talk about being color blind when we live in a society that clearly is not. I know it may make us whiteys uncomfortable (SCARY I KNOW), but it is necessary.

Sorry you've been "ingrained" by ghosts you have no relation to.

Sorry you feel guilt for crimes you never committed.

Sorry you feel responsible for other people's impression that they need an excuse for their criminal/abherrent behavior.

I don't share your racist "feelings", so next time use "I" instead of "we" when you post opinions. Just because you have white skin don't make the extremely racist assumption that all white people think the same. Nor do all blacks or asians or hispanics.

A bunch of white people saying minorities aren't oppressed.

Oh looky here.... happens to be the same ones who go on and on in other threads about being victims of the government.

Awesome thread. You people are a joke.

So you only defend oppressed people if they are black like you?

Classic racist.

Strange that Firefox didn't pick up on that one...

I was working in Osaka. I started out doing graphic design but then I realized it's a shitty career (long hours, bad pay, people demanding really bad designs...). After that I worked a variety of jobs: teaching English, translating, bar tending, etc...

I'm sure your sister stuck out like a sore thumb. Is she a basketball player? I play PG here but I often got stuck at SF or PF there because I was often one of the tallest people on the court and I'm only 5'10"!!!! There are some good ballers there. Really fast paced games, lots of fast breaks and quick plays

I may be headed back there soon.
