When I received the e-mailed puzzle (from a friend), there was a secure xls attachment. The answer to this puzzle was the code to open that file. Kind of a creative way to let you know if you got it correct, I'd say.![]()

I did have to think about it for 45-60 seconds first though...
I love stuff like this. Anyone who said 144 as if that is the only answer is incorrect.
The best answer is likely 144.
There isn't enough info given, if you are going to do things not represented in the problems such as multiplying numbers you must be open to other tricks.
Try this.
2 + 3 =10
Double each number and you get 4+6 which does equal 10. If you use the 2 from the first example in the second one you find that the number 7 equals 59. Maybe that is 7 times 7 plus the answer to the first one. So my answer to the question is that 9 plus 7 equals whatever 9 is plus 59.
Or maybe you add 96 to that, who knows?
