Recently my grandmother passed and we were looking through old photo albums she put together. Found one of my brothers and I on Halloween. My older brother who was probably about 12 was a football player in full black face. Probably from around '93-'94, I don't remember.

Made me think, what is the statute of limitations on someone doing blackface? Should he be tarred and feathered? Again, it's my older brother, so I'd be first in line if the order is sent down from the SJWs.

I think we need a full definition of blackface, as in, is it racist still if you are 12 and your favorite football player is OBJ, so you create a costume replicating him?

If you went to any school event these days in a costume like that I almost gaurantee they send you home.

Watched the PM on a new shot, apologize profusely, this morning. Two points he made, leave me wondering why they need to be made. It seems to be a liberal thing, so I don't get it. I suspect someone will help me out.

First about the black face, he says, he did it, he is deeply sorry. Says he should have known better, growing up with privilege left him with a blind spot.

These statement leave me with two questions;
I can't relate to growing up with privilege but I can see, perhaps the son of a PM might have sensed the moment that I missed. Would that be it?
Second, I really don't get why he should have known better! I can't recall when someone acting with black face became a bad thing, nor do I know just what the hell is so bad if they do when not knowing it is so bad? Now, I have no desire to do so, can't ever recall that the idea ever crossed my mind, but what would be so evil about it?

Not trying to trigger anyone, just attempting to understand the evolution or maybe the elevation of the event to a crime.

I do remember Al Jolson performing in black face in old movies when I was young. I did wonder why he did it. But don't remember ever getting an answer.

Ah!
I may have gotten a partial answer, somewhat unwittingly from @TorturedBlazerFan in another thread.
Perhaps as some what of natural follower of the Stoic Philosophy, I am just naturally reticent to judge others for doing what I might not do, might not feel.

Sorry to inform you, but your brother is a racist. He needs to resign from whatever position he holds at whatever job he is at and issue a public apology, promptly. There are white liberals out there who he has hurt deeply with his actions. You should probably distance yourself from him.

As much as I despise SJW cancel culture, I’m actually pretty excited to see Trudeau’s public apology. I think it will be comedy gold.

Golly! That bad?

Example of how petty things have gotten with no room for mistakes and or change.
This political correctness crap is a a cancer that has sicken this country.

Wow, no kidding. Thanks for that little dose of reasonability.

It wasn’t that good, just threw in all buzzwords possible.

I say cut the guy some slack! Like he's say's he's changed person, and wasn't doing it to degrade any race.
Yes, even the PM of Canada deserves a break.
The man apologized I think with a sincere heart.
Al Sharpton was being accused of being a racist today for things that go way back, he is being given break too. Let their current actions/conduct represent them now.

So someone explain this to me..... the whole issue, as I understand it, is that blackface is offensive because it represents the minstrels and racism in America.

But this isn't blackface..... apparently he was doing An Aladdin costume/impression. Aladdin isn't black. He's Middle Eastern. So how does this reflect the racism in America when it's not IN America and it's not a black person?

1- the act of painting your face to appear darker is the issue, it doesnt matter where/who you are imitating
2- white people dont get to decide what is offensive to black people
3- 'blackface' i dont think means you are only limited to imitating black people; brown/black/whatever it is, putting on make up strikes a nerve for people of color, so thats that.

Being offended about something that happened in ANOTHER COUNTRY that has nothing to do with our history or our culture is ridiculous. I'm sorry.

The Kavanaugh rule is to impeach individuals for sexual misconduct without corroboration or substantiation.
Wrong. You would have to have impeachment and conviction to even get a discussion started to accept that definition. Also, you'd have to have a reasonable FBI investigation before impeachment hearings could even be considered.

There was a reasonable FBI investigation. So that is the Kavanaugh rule?

Have a reasonable FBI investigation, which did happen in his case and they found nothing credible.

Got it.

So the FBI needs to conduct an FBI Investigation whether or not Justin Trudeau put on Black Face or not.

No, the investigation was guided by the White House and omitted 15 witnesses including one proposed by a senator. There were only four days allowed for interviewing witnesses.

So there was no FBI investigation?

How many days should they have interviewed witnesses?

And how are you going to apply this rule to Trudeau?

Define a reasonable FBI investigation. Apparently the FBI did very little to investigate the allegations and the trump administration made sure they laid out a very narrow area that could be investigated and failed to interview several leads. I wouldn't call that an investigation and would label it more as lip service. Wonder why this administration is in so fear of the truth that they have to obstruct pretty much any investigation involving trump.

There really wasn't anything other than someone's recollection from 30 years ago with no corroboration.

why are you concerned about Trudeau so much? Last I checked, he is not an American and is not an American politician.

So I ask again, how are we going to apply this fictional "Kavanaugh rule" to Justin Trudeau?
