BLAINE – The Peace Arch crossing on the U.S.-Canada border was closed this afternoon after a Canadian agent was shot.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cpl. Bert Paquet says the agent was breathing when she was flown to a hospital, but there’s no further word on her condition.
She was in her booth when she was shot in the neck at about 2 p.m. Tuesday by a man trying to enter Canada in a van with Washington state plates. He says it appears the suspect then quickly shot himself to death.
Paquet says investigators are trying to piece together what happened and why.
