Cant say it wasn't justified

Okay, so that's the video then. Like I said, you can't even see the SUV from the 0:35 until 0:50 when the driver runs over the bike and the dude. So there's about fifteen seconds of the bikes and the SUV just sitting there. We have no idea what was said or done in those 15 seconds of everyone just sitting there (unless there's another video).

But according to the police (from witness statements), it was when everything was stopped after the initial collision that the SUV's tires were slashed and there was some damage done to the SUV, causing the SUV driver to continue on, and that's when he ran over the guy trying to help his friend.

the guy that you see dismount and walk over to the guy that is down, is the innocent victim who went to aid. He is the guy that will never walk again by all accounts.

Dude, did you not read the recap of the incident posted like 10 posts ago? When the SUV was stopped after the initial douchebag slammed on his brakes, that's when the SUV had its' tires slashed and the car was being hit/dented. That's when the SUV then took over and ran over the dude that was trying to help his friend. So, the SUV driver was clearly already being threatened, causing his reaction to drive off. What's so hard to understand about this? If everything was calm and nobody was threatening the SUV/driver, no further incident would have occurred. Nobody gets run over.

yeah I read that, it does not jive with the following six minuets of video that shows this vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. I dont see flat tires or dents, I dont see guys beating on the SUV until the second event

I'd like to see video where you clearly see this. I've driven on shredded tires for as long as that guy has driven with one (or multiple) allegedly slashed tires. I don't see how you can see what's going on around the SUV. I know I sure can't from the video. I can barely make out the front of the car, let alone the other three sides. When you get a chance, please do post the video you have. Thanks!

at around the five minuet mark you can clearly see three tires in perfect working order. The only tire not visible is the passenger front. That tire was perfectly fine as the driver runs over the rider in the first few second of the video.

Edwin “Jay” Mieses Jr., 32, who was riding one of dozens of motorcycles on the Henry Hudson Parkway Sunday afternoon, sustained two broken legs after apparently being run over by the SUV, police said. He remained in critical condition Tuesday at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City.
In June, the Registry notified the National Driver Register that Mieses was a habitual traffic offender whose right to drive in Massachusetts was revoked until 2017, records show.

Have you driven a car with slashed tires before? The car was only stopped for a few seconds. They very well could have been slashed and leaking slow.

I'm not saying they were slashed at that point. I'm just saying I have no evidence to prove that they are or are not slashed. All I have is what's being reported. The video doesn't offer much conclusive help.

I can without reserve state that they were all holding air during the video after the driver claims that they were slashed. Yes I have driven on a flat tire, in fact that is another reason I question the validity. I drove a short distance and shredded a tire, that was at a low rate of speed. There is no possible way that that guy could drive at a high rate of speed on a n expressway for as long as he did without destroying the tire in its entirety. The surest proof of the statement would have been the point of failure, loss of complete or partial control accompanied by lots of sparks.

got ya, factory tires are run flat. You think that on a 2000 model year vehicle that those are still in place? The costs of run flat tires are twice the costs of regular tires. In my experience those are one of the first service items to get short cut.

Now you know why you need a magazine with 30 bullets.

I dont know the laws in NY, but here in Oregon I believe that if you intentional run some one over, the vehicle is considered a deadly weapon, just like a drunk driving incident, the vehicle is considered such.

In Oregon, when your life or others are threatened, you are justified in using whatever deadly force you deem necessary to end the threat. As the police reported in the link you never read, THE BIKERS WERE ALREADY ATTACKING THE SUV, BREAKING WINDOWS AND SLASHING TIRES BEFORE THE SUV RAN OVER ANYONE.

“This is a major stunt event where motorcyclists from various locations come together,” Kelly said. “Quite frankly it wasn’t on anybody’s radar screen last year. We were aware of it this year.”

As 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported, Kelly said Tuesday that the bikers caused other problems besides the road rage incident. A total of 200 people complained to police Sunday that the bikers were being reckless on Manhattan streets, Kelly said.

The cyclists caused plenty of problems last year too, Kelly said.

“Last year, they came over 1,000 cyclists to be somewhat disruptive,” Kelly said. “They rode on the sidewalk – that sort of thing.”

In order to prevent the group from heading into Times Square this year, police set up checkpoints throughout the city. Kelly said during that effort, 15 arrests were made, 68 summonses were issued, and 55 motorcycles were confiscated.

Police said Lien had called 911 to report the bikers were driving erratically.

...

During the rides, bikers at the back of the pack often slow down to delay traffic. The move allows bikers at the front of the pack to take off, go fast, and perform stunts — but can lead to frustration for motorists.

In the video, some of the bikers are seen getting off their motorcycles and approaching the car. That was when police said some of the bikers begin damaging the Range Rover, though it’s not clear from the video.

They take their helmets and they start to dent his car and apparently his tires are slashed there,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

Police said Lien panicked and the video shows the SUV suddenly accelerating, plowing over some of the motorcycles.

For the next several minutes of the video, the bikers can be seen chasing the Range Rover for about two miles. At one point, the SUV stops and one of the bikers is seen in the video ripping open the driver’s side door as the Range Rover speeds off.

The SUV eventually gets off the highway around West 178th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, police said.

As Lien gets stuck in traffic, the bikers surround him again, police said. One of the riders is seen in the video jumping off his bike, ripping off his helmet and using it to bash in the driver’s side window.

A second biker is also seen running up and hitting the driver’s side rear window with his fists.

At this point the video stops, but police said the attack continues.

Kelly said Lien is taken out of his car and assaulted.

Witnesses described what they saw.

“He got off his bike and started attacking the person in the Range Rover with his helmet, breaking the windows and after they got him out of his car, they beat him up,” said witness Christopher Quinones.

Lien was taken to the hospital where he needed stitches to his face.

I'd say he did the bare minimum of hurt in defending his family from homicidal maniacs. I might have taken a more aggressive approach.

I read this link after you posted it. I do not agree with it is my entire arguement, and have given many reasons why. How in gods name could I be at odds with the damn peice if I had not read it? Maris, even when you jest logic is in play..use it.

I've driven on two slashed tires almost a half-hour before they just exploded and gave way. Just sayin'.

Was 18 and it's the only time in my life (since I was a baby, anyway) that I nearly shat myself. The tow company was the first to say my tires slashed. The po-po, me, everyone else assumed I hit something on the road. Sure enough, surveillance from a gas station I'd been at was the proof. Some lil mexi-nugget (call me racist, I don't care - he was like 17 and the size of my 5-year old daughter now) slashed my tires simply for fun.

I would bet that the SUV driver ends up being charged once this is fully investigated

Flat tires or not (that ain't my debate), that ain't the point. My point is that I'm not surprised dude was scared given how many peeps there were and how at least was bat-shit retarded. None of this happens without the stupidity of Douche Magouche slapping his brakes. He's the one that deserved harm, if anyone (I wish harm on nobody, but it seems that if anyone gets harmed, it should be the moron the causes the melee, no?).

I won't be surprised. Just like how the Trayvon Martin case played out - bowing to pressure through media. But I bet it's a much lighter charge than you'd typically see in such a case, simply for the fear factor and the fact some douche on a bike caused it, not the SUV driver.

Sorry you don't like the facts of the case but numerous eye witnesses are in agreement that the attack was unprovoked and extremely violent. You weren't there. They were.

Defending these POS would be murderers smells of trolling.

Just re-posting this cuz I thought people would get it after Maris first posted the quotes from an article. I was wrong. I gave the people here too much credit.

we can both agree that the bikers were the cause of all of the events that happened. They were behaving like a bunch of punks.

homes..there are times I enjoy a reaction, much as you. This is not one of those times. I do not defend the actions as much as decry tha reactions of the SUV driver. The first few posters here where of the opinion that the SUV driver was of no guilt..I do not agree.

Hey, as I said earlier, I don't agree with what the SUV driver did, and it's not what I'd have done. I just don think it was intentional and he was acting out of legit fear for his family and himself. I can't speak to the guy's character, so I can only put myself in his shoes and try to relate. I'd pray that I could be the man that gets out and diffuses the situation. But next on my list would be to get the fuck away out of fear. Honest to God truth right there.

I respect how you feel. I would like to believe that I am being open minded here, but the possibility does exist that I see this from the view point of someone who has been ran over by a car, did not walk for over a year, and still have issues that will last the rest of my life...not looking for pity points, just a statement of fact

It's illegal to drive side-by-side in one lane, yet all the bikers did that in the video. They were also too close to the car. Are they all getting 2 tickets, or are they being let off?

I respect that, am sorry it happened, and I wish you the best. Truly.

I know nothing of your situation, but would be sincerely interested in hearing it.

That being said, I've ridden motorcycles. The last activity I can think of to partake in when I want to be stupid, dumb, and crazy is riding a motorcycle. I feel bad for the critically-injured dude. I really do. He was looking out for someone else. But it started with one dude being a complete douche on a bike. And that's going to be on his shoulders forever. He should pay first.

SUV driver..... He's going to pay one way or another. He might get a minor charge. He might get sued. He might get away on both accounts. But if the dude is a decent human being, he's going to live with the guilt o his actions everyday, even if they did come from fear. And if he doesn't feel guilty, he'll get his eventually. He will. Maybe not in the form you'd want justice, but he'll get it.

oh..man..I first rode a Jawa 500 in the early 70s...My Dad had a 58 model that I had to learn on, went on to dirt bikes..then to street bikes ..a 65 XLCH Chop then to big inch stuff..I have a ton of respect for bikes..those guys are fuckin nuts...I would not ride within a mile of any of them

I only bring it up to give possible reason for my steadfast stubbornness

Exactly why I think the SUV driver was probably scared to even be driving on the road with them.

If I were to threaten you and chase you and while you ran away, you fell off a cliff, I'd be guilty of murder.

I don't know what the driver was supposed to do. Let a mob break into his vehicle and brutally beat his family?

It seems to me the bikers were in the wrong and caused the injury.
