Canzano: Blazers Getting Creative About Getting Better

Getting Hinrich and still having anywhere from 6-10 million in cap room to play around with in free agency and to do more lopsided trades in the summer (depending on who gets moved to acquire Hinrich and who gets renounced) would be a major coup, assuming you still had a roster of Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Batum, Przybilla and maybe Bayless intact.

Interesting.... Trade for Hinrich and sign Artest.

Hinrich
Roy
Artest
Aldridge
Oden

That's just fucking scary.

Replace Artest with G-Force, and I'm even more down.

in would be in effing SANE!

What would we have to give to get him though? Presuming that we give up nothing to sign Artest that is.

Suddenly, Canzano isn't full of crap?

If we can expand the Chicago deal that includes Tyrus Thomas we can kill two birds with one stone.

KP likes Tyrus and tried to trade for him by offering Channing Frye (soon after we obtained him from NY.)

We get our PG and backup PF.

Sign Artest and we are set. Maybe expand that to a sign-and-trade to consolidate the roster a tad (Webster, ect.)

PG: Hinrich / Bayless
SG: Roy / Fernandez
SF: Artest / Batum
PF: Aldridge / Thomas
C: Oden / Przybilla

Something like...

Blake for Hinrich
22 + 33 + TE for 16

Then, using the $5 mil or so we have left, 16 + TO + Sergio for Wallace.

The second unit is essentially all starter-worthy. I think eventually it would be a problem for chemistry. We all know Bayless is going to want to start, and I wouldn't be surprised if Rudy, Batum, Thomas, and Joel would like to see the starting unit as well.

Let's say eventually Bayless takes over for Kirk (in the next 2-3 years) and Batum takes over for Artest (same timeline), what about Thomas and Rudy? They're both young. I'm a little scared of having too much talent on this team. I know it's a good thing to be scared of, but it can cause serious chemistry issues.

As much as I want the team to sign a good vet or two, I still don't see the logic in punting the draft.

If you need to trade the pick to get the right vet - so be it. Otherwise, be aggressive and find the best the best player you can in the rookie pool. Adding talent is always a good thing.

Unless it's taking up valuable cap space, which in this case it would be.

The difference isn't enough to land an impact FA. (and who would that be anyway? is Hedo really worth the $10+ million he is asking for?)

I know, I have been saying this for years, but having a little bit of cap space is a waste. It is only useful if you use it to facilitate a lop-sided deal. Otherwise, you are just over-paying for an MLE player. Call me a cynic, but I firmly believe a trade is still our best bet. With Sessions likely off the table, the only FA I am really excited about is Miller - and there is no evidence the Blazers are interested in him.

As long as Bayless is on the roster there is no room for Maynor.

I like Maynor as a prospect, though. One analysts called him "Mark Jackson with a jumpshot."

Really? I have to admit, I haven't watched any of Maynor other than that video, but Mark Jackson was a pure point guard. One of the best assist men in league history. That's quite a claim. Also, Jackson liked to play with his back to the basket. Is that Maynor's m.o.?

...maybe he will even sign for cheaper so he can play with the best player he has faced, rather than trying to guard him :dunno:

Miller could be had for around the 3 years 25mil at an increasing scale. You don't hear his name then its probably who KP wants.

Scared to have talent? What is your damage son?
