OT Carmelo Trade talk?

depending on the deal, I'd be ok with Melo coming here. But I can't imagine what deal would be worth it, and I wouldn't do it without Melo signing off on being a Blazer, which won't happen ever.
 
If Melo played like he does for team USA he's a game changer and a winner. Even though I don't like him, he does come to play for team USA everytime with success
 
23, 24, 26, 28 million per year over the next 4 for Melo.
Interesting that the Knicks only have the 27th highest payroll in the league. (We are at #30)
Trading Melo to us for cap space would give the Zen Master a lot of options next year. With his ego I am sure he feels he could lure some top free agents.

But like you have all said, would Melo agree to come here? Plus I believe Denver holds the rights to their pick, so I doubt they want to trade Melo now. I am sure Phil is just testing the waters.
 
Not a big fan of Melo in recent years. But......he's got a ton of talent.

I'd agree as long as it was for minor returning players and most, if not all, our cap space.
Lillard - Henderson - Melo - Leonard - Plumlee is a probable playoff team in West.

I think Melo primarily plays the four spot now.
 
Exactly how does Melo fit into a Stotts' offense? I'm not seeing the connection. Melo is the anti-flow.

Eh, I think he could take over LA's spot pretty easily as a stretch four. Not saying I like the guy, but he's actually a better scorer than LA is.
 
Sure, if they don't mind taking a future 1st round pick for him.

I see your point, but didn't that scheme work because LMA would pass the ball out of the post when he got doubled?

I really do wish Melo was a better defender and more of a team player. I loved what he did in college and really believed he would be an NBA great. If he could learn be play defense and be less selfish I would say to sign him up. Mixed with Dame and our shooters and slashers they could be a very good team.
 
Melo is a lights out scorer with range, problem is he doesn't play defense and the ball sticks with him in the NBA but as I said before, he plays better with team USA than he does in the NBA..seems to have a different mindset under the right coaching staff. Stotts system needs a guy who can create his own shot and Melo does that. You're right about the flow, it wouldn't exist once he touched the ball.
 
Deng, Winslow, Anderson, other cheap expring for Carmelo. NY moves on, gets intriguing young talent in Winslow to pair with Porzingis in rebuild. Deng, Afflalo, Lopez keep them in enough games to where the young guys get valuable experience, and not a season of garbage time.

Culture smulture, I want championships. This isn't a church organized basketball league.

If I were the Knicks... for that deal, I'd trade him in < a NY minute! They'd have good contracts/sittin' pretty w/ $, be pretty good (ESPECIALLY in the east), AND they'd have a good future too! Let's hope Phil & the gang don't pay attention to this forum!:smiley-pray: Not to mention, Mia. would be scary.

I think you are getting church values and team culture mixed up.

You can have a team of thugs and still have a strong culture. It doesn't mean they have to be choir boys.
But for a team to win they all have to be on the same page. Or at least the vast majority of them.

The Detroit "bad boys" Pistons are a perfect example of that. They bonded, they supported each other, they had team leaders, they had a system and a style they all played within, they had standards they were expected to meet, they had each other's back....they all fit into that team's culture. If they didn't, then the team leaders made it clear it would not be tolerated. (Watch the ESPN documentary of the Bad Boys, it is pretty good)

No matter what the culture is for any team.......... bringing in a player like Melo can be risky if he does not fit with the other players.
Teams with a strong culture.....win.
 
Is Melo a bad guy or something? I know he is considered a ball hog, but watching him play for team USA kinda made me a fan.
 
I always thought we'd be better swapping LMA for Melo. But now that we're going in a new direction I'm more interested in the players we have.

So... you don't want Melo, then? Because, hes never getting a championship for a team. Just making sure you know that.
 
Melo gets a lot of hate but he's getting to the age where he NEEDS to be a Robin to extend his career and give himself a shot at a championship.

Honestly, if the Knicks were to offer something decent and fair for him and I were Olshey, I'd consider it.
