OT Carmelo Trade talk?

I don't think anyone is saying he is a bad guy.
I'm saying he's a fake-tough ball-hogger whose ego writes checks his body can't cash. "Stop Snitching" and "Let me be quite frank...", gtfo with that. Maybe that garbage plays well on the streets some East Coast metropolis or something, but not here.

Everything I've heard is that he's a prima dona and his wife is a piece of work.

Id love for us to facilitate a Melo trade if New York wanted to cut some payroll. We'd have to get the right pieces though.

Where are his must likely destinations? I'm trying to think about what we could do

Please... Carmelo Anthony over Rudy Gay 72/82 games a season.

Exactly how does Melo fit into a Stotts' offense? I'm not seeing the connection. Melo is the anti-flow.
Actually, he'd play a role very similar to LA, jack up a lot of forced mid range shots. And I was so looking forward to that going away....

So you'd spend an extra $10M per year, give up an extra 5 points per 100, just so that we can get a crunch time call?
Yes. Also, 'Melo is one of the best offensive players in the NBA and is pretty clutch, if he ever got his head on straight and accepted a lesser role he'd be a monster.

If I wasn't terribly old and I knew how to play and I had infinitely more athletic abilities than I do, I'd be a monster.

George Karl won big with Anthony, but not Cousins. He'd probably love to trade them for each other. Phil Jackson should be on the horn with Divac.

We have this dude named Damian Lillard who will always have the ball in his hands at the end of games. You can make the argument that Rudy Gay is just as good. He's just as efficient while putting up 18 or so a game. Melo has never had a big difference between Ortg and Drtg even when he was winning in Denver.

And the thing is, if that was ever going to happen, it would've by now.

Short version, just say HELL NO to MELO.

Debating potential trades is enjoyable. However, this roster is made up entirely of Olshey’s boys. I doubt he would consider trading any of his boys unless it was a lopsided no brainer deal.

Also, team chemistry is already developing this off-season; something special is in the works. The players are jelling around Lillard’s leadership. Stirring the roster right now would be bad timing.

I think we could use a starting caliber SF and can somewhat convince myself that maybe a change of scenery can do him good.
Our same roster plus Melo at the 3 (if we trade only cap-space for him) would at least get more respect around the league and I think could also bring better results. As I said, starting SF is maybe our weakest position.
He could actualy be more available than Rudy Gay right now and I think now could be the time to buy low in his case. "Buy low" is kind of our colture this summer isn't it? maybe trading for Melo isn't that bad idea?

That's where this scenario gets blown to smithereens. There is NO way the Knicks dump Melo just for cap space & I would be unwilling to trade anyone of value for Melo for this version of the Blazers.

If it's cap space with a future 2nd, sure - you take the player.... but it's not. It would cost us a LOT more than just cap space.

OK I did a little research on the subject. My sources are not very good (NY Knick message boards going back to 2012) but I did find a fews comments that said George Karl hated Melo as do many of his current and former teammates. Interesting that Phil Jackson would pay all that money to resign him, but then again he coached and won with two of the biggest prima donna's in the history of the league.

Although it does confirm how right I was when I argued with some of you a couple years back about giving Phil Jackson control of the Blazer's front office. Being a HOF coach does not equate to being a good GM.

Melo makes so much his on court value doesn't exceed his contract cost. So teams won't give up additional value and I don't see the Knucks interested in a salary dump. The Knicks don't have their own pick either. If he's traded it doesn't happen until well into the season if the Knicks are out of the playoffs. More likely it happens next summer.

It will be interesting to see him try to force a trade to a team of his choice like last time. But this time those few select teams may not want him unless he plays really well this year. And if that is the case, NY won't move him.
