Isn't she the one who was going to sue the Miss America company for firing her for answering a question about gays during the contest by saying they shouldn't marry, but the company produced pictures she had taken of herself in the mirror fingering herself "down below" to sell, though she never did sell them, so she dropped the lawsuit to avoid embarrassment, which seems to have worked, since articles like this one don't even mention it, though they would if she were a man, though the bigger news would be that Miss America is a man?

Then she presented herself as Christian martyr, got an interview on Larry King, but refused to answer his questions.

Why do you have so much hate? So what if Elton John sang at the wedding of someone he disagreed with? Is it your position that you don't associate yourself with anyone that disagrees with you? That's awfully closed-minded.

Well, I'm here, so clearly I associate with people with whom I disagree.

Has Rush Limbaugh ever expressed that specific view? I don't listen to him, so I'm coming at it from a point of ignorance and am looking to be educated. I figure if he said gay people were "subhuman", it would have made its way to the general media.

Just because you identify with a group and that group shares a "general feeling" doesn't mean it has to become yours as well. Be a bigger person.

I don't take Rush Limbaugh any more seriously than I take Keith Olbermann. My opinion of him--if I think of him at all--is that he's a buffoon who is comfortable with hypocricy and says outrageous things for ratings. Most people I know that are against gay marriage believe homosexuality is a sin, but don't hate gay people. I think it falls under the rubric of "hate the sin, love the sinner".

My view is that it's hard enough to find love in this world without discriminating who you can and cannot love. I happen to believe that its despicable that any of my single, straight friends can get hammered in Vegas and wake up to find themselves married but my gay friends who have been together for years are denied that opportunity. If that's not inequality, I don't know what is.

But all that being said, I heard that Mr. John stated he took the gig because he wanted to build bridges. And what better way than at a gathering of people that disagree with gay marriage? I actually applaud him trying to reach out to those people and to make them confront their own biases.

Maxie, you know you don't have to say subhuman to mean subhuman. Constantly being told you are unnatural, shouldn't be allowed to marry, have equal rights, you're going to hell, you're pedophiles, allowing you to marry would be like letting pedophiles and people who partake in bestiality, etc, is being treated as subhuman.

They may not not hate gay people, but they do deny them equal rights. If the religious people (as there are also non-religious people who are anti gay marriage) had people vote against them having the right to worship, they'd think the people voting against them hated them. It is certainly an act of hostility, at least.

Edit: Also I agree that Elton John building bridges is a good thing. The LBGT community which is largely White dominated in its more outspoken and public image would have done itself well to reach out to the People of Color communities in California during the Prop 8 vote. It is something that should also be happening now, since faith plays such a large part in the POC community.

actually, no. Equal rights were never the issue with prop 8. California civil unions are roughly identical to marriages in California, they just have a different name designation.
