__________________The non offer to DRob has to be related to lack of commitment to him purely as a closer. Tells they are hedging bets and/or DRob's camp had communicated that non-closer wasnt negotiable.
As for McCarthy that has to be a story. Did they think they caught lightning in a bottle? Does this say something about Tanaka, CC, Nova's health? Or is there one more big move...especially with trading away Greene.
I heard comments on MLB yesterday that the new Dodgers GM Zaidi and Mc Carthy are buddies from the old Oakland Days. I think 4 and 48 was pretty generous. My own thoughts on Mc Carthy were that he'd done a nice job but no more than two years. Read an article on Gregorious and the kid has a great attitude regarding his pending Yankee gig. As long as he stays within himself he'll be fine. Watching "Hot Stove" this AM I'd say the A-hole circus has now begun with much chirping on the part of Harold Reynolds reminding us all that A-hole will get more press than anyone.
...^^^ Headley or preferably Prado at 3B...and either Prado or one of the kids at 2B.
______________________And its for that very reason (one of the kids not getting a chance) that I'm really hoping a-rod is a bust.

I understand the possibilities and candidates for 3b and 2b without Arod in the mix.....I'm interested in how the Yanks would dispose of Arod.
Release him and hope someone claims him or just pay him for the next three years?
Is that it? Just release him.
__________________________...if he can't play well enough to make the roster no other teams is going to want him either...and if they release him they are still on the hook for the remaining salary. Best case scenario for the Yanx would be for ARod to say that he is physically unable to play due to injuries and then the Yanx would be able to recoup approximately 80% of that salary via an insurance policy that is already in place.
... but ARod's salary and AAV would still be counted toward the annual Yankees payroll as well as the Luxury Tax cap.
All we can hope for is that he sucks so bad during ST that the team won't be able to justify wasting a roster spot on him.
...^^^ I think there's a better than 50/50 chance that's exactly what will happen.
And if the team can't justify wasting a roster spot on him what happens next?

Okay - My guess has been as long as he can swing the bat fairly well and run without pain (even with a slight gimp), he'll play and he'll see action mostly as a DH and days off on the bench.
...I seriously don't think he can even pass as a part time DH...hell, his hitting skills had already diminished dramatically the last time he played and that was a long time ago...he had become a strike out machine (1 out of every 3.62 ABs) who could no longer catch up to a fast ball and could not lay off the breaking ball...those things don't improve with time.
...And he will not have faced MLB pitching in nearly 2 years by the time ST begins. He's out of Baseball shape and when you're 40 years old that does not return with a flip of a switch.
...ARod is toast.
