We're getting these twin sisters at the end of next month! First time ever sharing a house with cats. Guess I got 20 pages to read through and see what we're getting in to.

A mountain lion wandered into San Francisco and took up residence in a startled resident's back yard. Fish and Wildlife contacted. They had trouble because mountain lions, like all cats, when they feel threatened squeeze into smallest possible space. After several tries they were able to hit the cat with tranquilizer dart. It's a 77 pound male about two years old. The cat will be moved to a suitable wilderness area.

I saw some pictures of that online, someone coming home from a bar at night and seeing it near a house. Holy shit that'd make you question if someone put something in your drink, seeing that!
I remember visiting my cousin's old lab above the campus in Berkeley a few years back, when there were sightings in the area as well. So weird to think about in such an urban setting, you forget how close you are to nature, and how much of their home we took away from them.

As a gardener I have found raccoons, squirrels, skunks, possums, foxes even. Plus rodents although they don't hang around if they are wise. Saw a deer strolling down major street.
Animals go where food is.

I have tried to explain to Lashanna that as a member of inferior species I can't see in the dark. Apparently she can't comprehend how anyone could be unable to see in the dark. Crossing a dark room in my house, didn't see her step in front of me and went sprawling.

I thought Lashanna was bumping my chair. Then realized she is too small to make it shake. And everything else was shaking.

4.2 magnitude earthquake.

Awakened by caterwauling. No way to sleep through that. Found glasses, flashlight, deactivated security, went outside very cold night in pajamas. Lashanna seemed unconcerned. Saw black cat I recognize coming across the street from backyard of opposite house. Territorial battle? Sounded a bit like female in heat but Lashanna would have reacted, even when spayed female cats see other females as rivals. Everyone went home. Reset security and back to bed.

Cat-erwauling is the worst.

Break between storms. Lashanna spent afternoon on the roof unleashing her inner Sheryl Crow, soaking up the sun.

Still going out at 5:30 AM to feed my cats. Getting light earlier. So will have to feed earlier. They run up the street to meet me and walk to feeding station. Cats are so much faster, they keep looking over their shoulders to be sure I'm still with them.
Cats are very good at following a scent. What happens if they track me all the way to my house?

BTW feral cats are not the same as true wild animals like racoons. Those are wild animals never domesticated. Feral cats are descended from domestic cats. The only way to re-tame them is with food. For kittens, easy. For generational ferals it can take years.
Lashanna was feral. You wouldn't know it now, she is so spoiled.
