We ran into Chris Douglas-Roberts at the annual Rookie Training Program Thursday, and we asked him flat-out if he's going to crack the Nets' rotation this year.

His reply was immediate: "Yes. I will be in the rotation," he said.

Confidence is good, especially in young people, and he has it in abundance. But he rewound the words in his head and realized how they'd look in print.

"Let me take that answer back," he suggested. "I'm not sure I'll be in it. But I'm going to prove it all practice, I'm going to show them I deserve to be on the floor. That's all I can do. The rest I'll leave up to the coach."

Here's one reason why he should be ahead of the curve: The Nets will be running an offense which he is very familiar with, having built his rep as a slippery scorer at Memphis with the DDM system. Lawrence Frank told him "the night of the draft" that they'll be running the same offense, and he's been counting the minutes to training camp ever since.

"It's gonna be great for us," CDR said. "We have athletic guys who can get to the basket, and that's what this offense is about. It's a drive-and-kick system, it's perfectly suited for guys who can get into the paint, so it will open up a lot of opportunities for Vince and Devin."

Pause. Grin.

"And myself," he said. "I'm used to it, I've been in it for three years. It's worked out pretty well for me."
