Eubanks is a great 3rd string center. He's not good if he's your main backup, especially with a lower minute often injured starter like Nurk.
Eubanks was a key component to the stealth tank. A fan favorite! Quick hops and strong dunks. Add in a few exciting blocks. Ant's pocket pass to Drew was gaining momentum, a true NBA weapon!

Without Drew, is Portland going with Badji as backup Center? That... is going to be some ugly basketball.

Jabari is waaay to small and bad at defense to be backup Center. Will Cronin hire another backup Center before the season? Probably not, Jody has proven time after time she ain't spending a dime for frontline reinforcement.

Any good Centers in the draft next year ??

Let's not forget that Badji is only 20 years old. He is still really raw and will need time. But as a 3rd center, with minutes in the G-League, I am totally fine with it

I think there's some kind of Australian regiment in partial control of the Blazers. If we sign Patty Mills and get Simmons in the Lillard trade, they'll start selling kangaroo shaped pretzels at the Moda Center.
I dunno. I’ve seen a lot of trumped up charges against Dame. I just feel like if we signed both Mills and acquired Dame that would really turn Moda into a Kangaroo Court.

I’d throw the assets we get from the Dame trade and see if Detroit bites for Jalen Duren

Char has 4 C's, Mark Williams likely the main guy and not to be traded. But after that they have a young/raw Kai Jones, then Nic Richards a guy at 25 who played well last yr , then they drafted Nnagi. Too many young guys and not much minutes. Would try to trade with them
Nick Richards.

Ben Simmons is big enough to play center (9' standing reach, 240 lbs) But the problem is that on defense you want him guarding the other team's best player......and that usually is not a center. So you still need someone under the basket to protect the rim. Although playing him at center would work well in certain situations.
I like Simmons as a point PF pick and roll and slashing threat who can be a secondary ball-handler on the break or when Scoot sits.

Paul Reed?! :dunno:
Add him to the list of young bigs on good contracts that Cronin refused to go after. The "what would you do, hmmm??" excuse to improve the Blazers grows bigger as this summer moves along.

Good point.

Where is the article that says Cronin "refused to go after" him?

there isn't one, nobody knows what goes on in the Front Office. Transparency is turned off during this rebuild. Except for Scoot, he's got cameras going everywhere he walks.

So you just assume stuffs and blame people on your own assumptions, right?
nope, I just see good bigs on other teams and wonder which direction the Blazers are building this team.

What about this Christian Wood guy we keep hearing about?

He seems like a headache but offensive talent seems there. I am always careful when guys switch team that much. From 2015 to 2023 he played for Philly, Charlotte, Bucks, Pelicans, Pistons, Rockets and Mavs. He only played once more than 1 season somewhere. Concerning.

It's only summer league but James Wiseman looks super interesting. And they have Duren. Can we get one? One center? Pls?

He’s still growing sooo

I really want to find a way to get Okongwu. Think he breaks out this season.

You can call Simmons a center or a guard, it doesn't matter. The key would be who you put next to him and Grant. For balance, you would need another frontcourt guy that will rebound well and matchup with bigs on defense. Otherwise, interior defense and rebounding will be a glaring weakness again. Simmons isn't the answer inside. His size and versatility on off and def would be perfect next to Wood, PJ Washington, Bazley, Bol Bol, Watford.

Giving value to get rid of our starting center would be one of the worst ideas possible.

Nurk makes less than many starting centers and he has three years left on his deal... which is not too long, but also short enough that it would be smarter to just wait it out than to give up value to get rid of it.

I don't understand the view that the Blazers must (or even want to) get rid of the dude when they just re-signed him last year and then gave Grant, who's older and at least as injury-prone, more than 50% more annually that lasts two years longer.
Agreed, and there’s more.
Nurk pouts when he isn’t given plenty of touches and his defense becomes lazy. This is why his contract is considered too high. When Nurk is relied on he plays better. Without Dame, Nurk will be leaned on more and I suspect his value will rebound. When the good Nurk shows up, he’s really good and might even outplay his contract. Then trade Nurk and get something good in return.

There are several center prospects at the top of next year's draft. That's the one area where it looks like it could be pretty good. Clingan, Bradshaw, Mara, Bona I think all lottery level, maybe all top 10. Filipowski and Ware probably in the top 20.

Nurk's going to be great with the young guys.
The team is not going to tank and he won't be traded.

I’d love to find a way to get Okongwu. I’m betting he’ll be worth more than a good 1st and another young prospect though.
