OT Child in viral Portland police hug photo missing, 5 family members dead after California cliff crash

It's pretty easy to brake in sand too...not like it's black ice and you'd skid if you hit the brakes....could be the driver gunned it and the passenger tried to brake it as well

Call it a dumb question but why the fuck isn't there a guard rail at that stop with a cliff dropping off like that?

I was wondering that as well...... but it also kinda looks like you're not supposed to drive in that area. There's those little coney looking things on the pulloff.

I'm not sure. It was a Tahoe right? Limited slip rearend?

If they were sitting there looking out and someone floored it I think that might explain the tracks. Digs in at first and spins the tires the whole time so no real speed is gained. Then as it goes over it is spinning the rear tires that are still spinning and drag over the edge.

Intentional? Maybe

I don't know if we'll ever know but to my amatuer detectiving it looks like the dirt is more disturbed at the start of the tracks and less disturbed at the edge of the cliff. That looks more like someone punched the accelerator and the SUV spun the tires in the loose dirt and gained traction as it accelerated. Slamming breaks tends to push the dirt forward so the tracks would get deeper as it moves towards the edge of the cliff, not shallower.

Looks like someone was spinning the tires doing a burnout, then put medal to the peddle. Doesnt look like someone was trying to stop as Sly pointed out the tracks get thinner towards the cliff.

Not a dumb question. There will be now

1. Does nobody read the articles they post?

A Clark County deputy accompanied Cowlitz County Child Protective Services to the Hart family's home Friday but nobody answered the door, Sgt. Brent Waddell, a Clark County Sheriff's Office spokesman, told The Oregonian/OregonLive on Wednesday.

The family and its SUV were gone the next day, Bruce DeKalb said.

Norah West, a spokeswoman for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, on Wednesday said the agency attempted to contact the family three times after receiving reports of abuse or neglect but was unsuccessful.

"Knock-knock, anybody home? Guess they don't want to surrender, we'll try again tomorrow."

"They're just child abusers, so we're powerless to arrest them if they don't want to open the door." :dunno:

2. Exactly. There is no rule or law that allows illegal aliens to get away with rape and murder compared to legal citizens either.

And yet, in both cases, due to political PC by the far left, people have been murdered en masse due to shielding and coddling by authorities of heinous criminals identified as Democratic supporters.

Wait, so you spewed hate about lesbians. Got called out on it. Stated you hated the laws allowing gays and lesbians to get away with abusing their kids. You get called out again as there is no such law
You agree. Then spew hate about immigrants? Dude

Updated 6:30 p.m.

Devonte Hart, a boy who in 2014 was at the center of a viral photo showing his tender embrace with a Portland policeman, is missing and at least five family members are dead after their SUV plunged off a cliff along the Northern California coast.

Devonte, now 15, is believed to have been in his family's vehicle as it went off a Pacific Coast Highway cliff Monday, killing his parents and at least three siblings.

Authorities continued late Wednesday to scour the crash scene, including the ocean, in search of the children believed to have been in the car and are missing, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said.

The victims, former West Linn residents who had moved to Woodland, Washington, plunged to their deaths when their 2003 GMC veered off Route 1 near the town of Westport and fell 100 feet, eventually landing on its roof on a large rock at the shoreline.

The three children killed weren't using safety equipment and "came out" of the vehicle at some point, the California Highway Patrol said. The women were found inside wearing safety restraints.

Authorities on Wednesday identified the adults as Jennifer Jean Hart, the driver, and Sarah Margaret Hart, both 38. The Hart children killed were Martin, 19, Abigail, 14, and Jeremiah, 14.

The sheriff's office said they can't find siblings Devonte, Hannah, 16, and Sierra, 12. All six kids were adopted by the married couple, the sheriff's office said.

The crash occurred days after authorities in Washington tried to visit the family home multiple times after receiving reports of abuse and neglect concerning the children.

At a news conference Wednesday, Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman said officials have "every indication to believe" all six children were in the vehicle when it went off the cliff.

"We have no evidence and no reason to believe this was an intentional act," Allman said. He also said there are no skid marks or brake marks indicating why the vehicle went off the cliff. He said an investigation is ongoing.

The sheriff appealed for the public's help in retracing where the family had been in recent days.

In 2014, a photograph of a tear-streaked Devonte hugging Sgt. Bret Barnum during a tense "Black Lives Matter" demonstration in downtown Portland garnered global attention.

The photo, originally published by The Oregonian/OregonLive, was featured in national media, reached No. 1 on the social-sharing website Reddit and drew widespread Facebook attention.

A serious tragedy and a great mystery.

Clearly a mass-murder suicide, and easily preventable had authorities sought a warrant and arrested them last Friday when they refused to open their door.

Appears they had no business having control over any of those kids, but got continual passes on abuse charges due to being lesbians.

That's more murders than most school shootings.

Do we ban 2003 GMC's, all motorized vehicles, lesbianism, child welfare investigators for triggering them...? :dunno:

Maybe Barfo knows?

You get more wild eyed every day.

Bodyman, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you lift a car off the ground (on jack stands or a lift), and with the engine running floor it, doesn't the speedometer indicate you are driving at X mph?

It can. I don't know if there are newer cars with actual speed sensors that measure wheel speed instead of relying on a sensor on the transmission.

Example, my 1969 olds cutlass with a 455 engine and an open differential could spin the right rear tire through all three gears. The speedo would read 120 mph and the car would barely be moving.

That car had a cable driven speedo that was connected directly to the transmission.

This SUV I believe has an electronically driven speedometer that gets a signal from a speed sensor on the transmission which feeds a motor in the instrument cluster. Basically the same idea but no cable.

I assume this vehicle would also read an inaccurate speed with the tires spinning.

From memory of the pics, there is no way that thing hit 90mph in such a short distance.

If the vehicle was floored and the speedometer quickly hit 90 way faster than the car actually could I wouldn't be surprised if it got stuck.

Yeah that does not mean much. That old piece of shit SUV (not nearly as big of a POS as the same era Navigator) is part of a large group of GM vehicles that are notorious for speedometer problems.

I think it means they were accelerating off the cliff.

Not an accident.

It doesn't really matter what speed they were actually traveling when they flew off because.... it was a cliff.

When I read that it made me wonder if the reason the kids didn't have their seatbelts on is because they were trying to jump out right as it went over.

Same thought crossed my mind

Wow, such a sad story.

Feel terrible about the kids, the parents sound like pieces of shit.

RIP

Kids don't ever deserve to die young and especially not that way.

Probably would be difficult to unfasten in an emergency like that.

Yes, you've caught us. All Democrats are terrible people. You could have found that out if you had attended one of our regular Wednesday meetings where we get together and plot out evil acts.

No, I know but from memory of that area there is now way they were doing 90.

More like spinning wheels and reading 90

There should be a strong retaining fence along the entire curve, with a parking space a walking distance away where it's safe to stop.

And a second fence, a pedestrian curb, 4 feet from the cliff edge, with warning signs that there's less ground beyond the curb that it appears.

And change all similar turnarounds.

I had thought that the suicide-accident probability was about 60-40% in favor of suicide. After seeing this picture, with blind downhill curves and no fence and little ground beyond the pavement, I think it's 85-15% in favor of an accident. The women's parents should sue whichever government maintains the road.

Except the vehicle came to a complete stop and then accelerated off the cliff.

How do they know? Besides, I want no parking access there, as I said. That would have prevented it, suicide or accident. It's too dangerous for accidents, being on a downhill curve.

Let tourists walk a few yards from a safer spot with a strong fence between the new safer parking spot and the cliff.

They know because their car had a device that recorded the actions of the car such as speeds at different times and braking actions. I believe this is installed in all cars for the last few years.

This sick and evil person was determined to kill her family. All the safety barriers in the world could not have prevented that. So they fix that one area. Then what, she accelerates on the highway and swerves into oncoming traffic killing her family and now someone else's?

It's her fucking fault. Period.
