Now the cat population will explode in China.

You do not believe Chinese restaurants really serve beef, or d0 you? Szechuan beef sounds so much better than Szechuan cat.

A little Chinese mustard and no one will ever know the difference

A restaurant cooking with opium is so last millennium. Marijuana has a much larger market share.

If Uncle Cliffy can get the Chinese to buy his product, he could solve our trade deficit problem with China.

Just what the world needs...give the Chinese the munchies

Back in the 90s we called it MSG.

If that word were "racist".

According to dvvis, yep.

The word comes from the northern Indian word cheen-ke which when migrated to England became the origin of Cheen-ke food.
Doesn't seem racist to me, I like it (the food). Of course my wife won't let me say it even after I took her to a Cheen-ki restaurant.

Cheen Ke (Ching kerr) means to pick up the tab in Mandarin

Cheen Ke (Ching kerr) means to pick up the tab in Mandarin

Who knows how it meaning changed just over the hill? And then Racist by the time it reached here in the US.
There was a restaurant along the way to my ranch I had in BC, maybe Williams Lake. They had a Cheen-ki sign out for
a few years, then closed down. It wasn't so good, so no loss. Canadian restaurants always seem Canadian regardless of
who runs them.

There are a lot of words in Mandarin that sound politically incorrect when you can't understand the meaning....the Chinese all say neggah whenever stringing ideas together which bothers Black people when they hear it....sounds just like a derogatory word for Blacks. I've had to explain that to many Black travelers in Asia over the years. Bun ...in Mandarin means stupid so if you're name is Ben and they ask your name, they might giggle when you tell them because it sounds like the word stupid. Linguistics are innocent for the most part.

They should have never put maple syrup on the fried rice

I always suspected you were a cunning linguist, riverman.

MSG must mean "mighty stoned and that's good"

Hmm. If this was the 19th century, those restaurants would have been owned by European interests. If this was the 20th century, Mao would have shot them for doing so. Sorry, but the irony was too great.

Fucking hilarious.... Most complete line of utter bullshit you've ever tried to sell...

Now we're supposed to believe that's not a racial slur because you came up with that crap?

Wow...

>Chairman Mao was a insecure devastating cruel prick just like Stalin. Rent The Red Violin and you can witness how the State over ruled the citizens rights and their love of music.

No. I know all about Stalin's Red Purges and Mao's Great Leap Forward, that killed tens of millions of people. It's so ironic to me that European intellectuals like Satre defended Stalin's policies until the 80's when undeniable evidence exposed his evil. Stalin kept personal plees from his murdered friends in his desk as mementos. And this is the man who Putin admires.... and you now have people completely ignoring Putin's human rights abuses. It's history repeating itself.

When I saw the thread title, I thought you were talking about resturaunts in Portland. No wonder chineese takeout is so good.
