As for Pritchard’s former employer, the Blazers are believed to have zeroed in on Thunder assistant GM Rich Cho, whose strengths in data analysis have wowed the Vulcan Inc. cronies who have owner Paul Allen’s ear. The Vulcanites, as they’re not so fondly called, are wielding plenty of influence in the power vacuum created when Pritchard was fired on draft night, sources say.

We fired Tom Penn and Kevin Pritchard to hire OKC's version Tom Penn.

Sniff... Sniff... does anyone else smell ice?

I have no effing clue if you are right or not - but I love the new Avatar!

I didn't think we'd be smart enough to hire a guy like Cho. We still may not be.

Given the alternatives we've heard, he's the best of the lot.

No need to badmouth a GM that has no record to run on. Let him show his stuff before passing judgement.

I agree. Now that we've lost Pritchard, trying to find a future Daryl Morey in Cho seems like the best option.

I would be happy to see what Cho can do as Blazers' GM.

Ed O.

I can agree to that. even though a different sport and position.. I was PISSED when Oregon hired an offensive coordinator by the name of Chip Kelly. I was like WTF WHO IS HE AND WHAT HAS HE EVER DONE!? AT A HIGH LEVEL NO LESS!!

Now I just wait on those lol.

Kind of like how we chose the current President of the United States.

For those of us who had been represented by Barack Obama before, we knew how he was likely to govern. The same signals are there for Cho, but in a good way.

Agreed. Most of the good GM's are locked up or fired by us (cough). Trying to find a Morey or Presti etc. seems like a good idea.

The key to hiring a guy like Cho is to give him some experienced hands as part of his team.

I don't know anything about him to form an opinion. Same as when we hired KP. Maybe that's a good thing.

yes, because asian math wizzes make GREAT leaders! and they know basketball!

Has Cho ever played any basketball that didn't involve a rule that they had to pass to the asian kid before shooting or the shot won't count?

Tells you how well the search is going when we go from experienced trade maker to number cruncher

John Nash was an "experienced trade maker". Are you saying you'd rather have him?

As if race is relevant.

Has he ever had any basketball coaching, managerial or playing experience whatsoever? Shit, we might as well hire the #1 fantasy hoops player in the nation then.

He's a good lawyer and number cruncher. Great. Assistant GM. Not the head honcho, you need someone who can handle the big deals and knows about the game of basketball.

If he is hired, I will apply as asst. GM! I wonder if I would still be allowed to post on here.

It'd be great if we were a shitty franchise and we could gamble our players away. But we are on the brink of being a contender and you want to hire someone to tweak the team with little to no known actual hands-on basketball experience?

Daryl Morey had never coached or played major organized basketball. His degree was in computer science and statistics. Almost an Asian himself. He's currently considered one of the best GMs in the game.

I realize it would be better to have a jock like Isiah Thomas as GM, but that isn't always a possibility.
