Bogus! Chris Mannix: Chauncey gone

Slightly misleading title...
It's blatantly a lie right now lol.

FWIW both Highkin and Marang saying this is a recent development is significant though. Sounds like no shortage of suitors though.

I won't be sad if he is let go, but I just hope they don't Caleb Kanales the hell out of the replacement.

Having been a prime Chauncey naysayer pretty much since he was hired I can't really complain, but I wonder if replacing him would set Ayton back. Seems like somebody finally reached him the last month or so of the season.

Just want to point out... I called this.

Also am calling it again now, if Chauncey is out, he goes to Detroit for their front office opening.

Surprising to hear he would quickly become a candidate for openings. He doesn't seem to be much of an X's and O's coach. Other than Ayton (and that's marginal improvement) I wouldn't say anybody has really improved. It's arguable that any improvement came just from getting a lot of playing time.
I hope he finds something he enjoys. I've actually talked to him a few times at his daughter's volleyball matches and he is very down to earth and approachable. He even started conversations with me twice, which celebs don't often do.
The next thought I have is who is next? Or, what kind of coach is next? I wish Udoka or Monty Williams were available, especially Ime.

If this is true, I would assume that he did not want to tank another year and the FO does.
Even though I don't want to tank again, I really can't blame either side.

This is an occasion when if I were a mod (not that I would ever be allowed to be one) I would change the thread title as misleading.

I really don't care who the coach or assistants are next season, ideally someone who can develop players and keep sane when the losses pile up. X and O, wins and losses just don't matter at all.

Chauncey was one of the two people left from the Olshey era.

Ant is the only one left - although Cronin was the one that gave him his current contract

I'm ambivalent on Billups. Don't really care either way...

but this just seems typical of the 'Vulcans-don't-give-a-shit-about-product' management style

Hopefully we just get developmental people and bide our time until somebody like that is available.

For those who want him gone.......how many wins does a new coach (that the Blazers can realistically lure here) increase our total?

Very little if at all... though I believe the organization will be tanking again, so I'm not sure this is the proper metric to measure anything.

I'll settle for the same number we won this year, on two conditions:
1. We've offloaded most of the vets, so we get that win total with the youngest team in the league
2. Our win rate increases steadily every month, so by the last month of the season we have a winning record (AKA the Poppovich method)

Doesn't matter.
new coaches are expensive. Coach Billups isn't that expensive. Jody Allen's profit is an exciting player to watch.

or how about the latest talking point..

- No coach would want this job

think about the hundreds of pro assistant, college, & Euro coaches who's dream job is running an NBA roster. It's the big show. Not everyone will get a chance no matter how much coaching work they've put into their careers. It's very rare to have an opportunity to be NBA coach.

.... nobody wants this job ??

forget that, SlyPokerDog already put in his application !!

Yeah. Better to look at somebody else unless we think Billups great.

There is nothing to be gained, IMO, by jettisoning CB, if the plan is to trade the vets that have value to layoff teams and take back journeyman players and picks. Sure, he might resign if Portland goes rebuild. Then Portland is out on having to pay him. I’m betting he doesn’t resign. Portland has to pay him regardless. I’m sure after next season the Portland coaching position will be more enticing if Scoot, Sharpe and Ayton play well and the new draft pick(s) show well too. Add in hopefully getting a great pick next year and then the young talent becomes enticing. Of course the ownership debacle is still looming with no end in sight.

Honestly just make Brogdon a Player Coach and save the money. It’ll give us a gimmick that might get us talked about and we don’t commit to anyone before the various debacles resolve.
