I'm pleased Chip is returning. Yay Chip. Yay us. Yay...

Am I the only one that was intrigued by the possibility of Petersen at Oregon?

His record as a HC at BSU is 73–6, 4-2 in bowls and has 2 BCS bowl wins.
In his first season he guided the Broncs to an undefeated season and their first BCS win. 73-6.

He develops amazing QB's. He does amazing things with two and three star athletes. He has a better record vs SEC teams than Chip. His value is in finding unrecognized talent and developing that talent.

I was intrigued, but all is well. :)

Peterson would be the obvious choice. My biggest concern about Chip possibly leaving is it happened right during this major recruiting cycle. Peterson's offensive philosophy is different than Kelly's and I wouldn't want a reverse Rich Rod/Michigan situation, where all the recruits the previous years were built for a certain system.

I would still choose Kelly over Peterson any day of the week though.

Makes sense. Eventually...we may see Petersen in Eugene. Eventually.

so just a question on the SEC record comparison. Petersen has beaten Georgia, and... (seriously I am not being an ass, there could be more I just cant think of)

the comparison is apples to oranges IMO as Petersen hasnt faced BCS title finalists for SEC teams. Petersen beat a 2nd tier SEC team currently.

Georgia went 7-1 SEC and was 1st SEC - East. Their only conference loss was to LSU. Georgia only lost by 3 to MSU in a great 3 OT bowl. Remember?
Tennessee? Not so much.

Petersen also has a pretty good record in head to head vs Oregon.

yes Georgia did go 7-1 in the SEC East and they did so while dodging Bama, and LSU. Up until the SEC Title game. The same Georgia that went 2-4 vs ranked teams (beating #20 and #23 at the time... and both of them didnt even finish the season ranked) As I said Apples to Oranges. Playing Georgia is not the same as playing LSU this year.

Georgia had five ranked opponents on their schedule - including LSU (six if you count MSU)

Georgia had 6 ranked teams they played this year, including Michigan State.

Correct. That's what I said. LOL. Five on their schedule (*schedule) and six including MSU. :)

Petersen is a great gameday coach. He's from a OC background and comes ready to play.
There are some serious questions regarding Chip and his game management - apparent in Glendale and against USC this year and his misuse of timeouts.

You never know what a guy like Petersen could do in Eugene unless he's actually here. :)

thats not what you said at first.

anywhoo
I'm not discounting Petersen, I actually also was telling Sly yesterday that Petersen's phone better be ringing. I only addressed your SEC comparison which was off IMO.

...amazing how some people can disagree, respect each other and move on - yes?

btw, fwiw - peterson does have a higher win % vs SEC and in head to head vs Oregon. :)

Chris Peterson is a good coach. I'm glad that we didn't lose Kelly, though.
