He has shown some improvement but if he has to be included in a package for a bonafide #1/#2 Center I am all for it and this contract (if your AAV guess is in the ballpark) makes him an attractive piece.

At that rate deal should have been for 5 years. We seem to sign every player for 500 K to $1M more than you'd think they'd get. That is not sustainable. At some point we need to get some guys to want to play here for a little less to make the cap work.

We cannot give Zib over $9M per. And Fox we should try to stay around $9M also, maybe $9.2M tops.

Nonsense. As usual, you're wrong. Shesterkin's contract is fine. The defense of this team has sucked ass in both his years. The fact he did what he did is incredible. If you put the Islanders goalies on this team they would be shit. Shesterkin's save % was over .920% mostly all year until the Rangers quit on the coach down the stretch and left him out to dry. That being said, the Rangers draft lots of goalies. So, perhaps one will emerge down the line. Shesterkin's contract isn't a problem. It's the dumb fuck contracts of Trouba and Kreider that dipshit Gorton handed out with the stupid NMC's that are the problem. We have to put up with 3 more years of those shitheads and their NMC's unless they wave them. It might get ugly with Trouba. He simply might not be playing much eventually if he refuses to waive it. I suspect when Robertson and Schneider are both on the big club if he's still here he will move to the left side.

I suspect Strome and Georgiev will not be here next year. I'm not sure Nemeth will be either. His contract is easy to move if somebody emerges. I'm also not convinced they won't move Zibanejad at the deaadline if the season is not looking like a playoff year. I wouldn't rule out them moving Zibanejad before the start of the season. Not for Eichel. For somebody else.

It's not about his ability, it's about being smart with the cap. His contract broke a record, which tells you all you need to know IMO. We should have gotten an extra year out of it. I don't question his ability to play the position. And yeah, the Kreider deal is terrible. I said so at the time when most liked it, including you, and then the Monday Morning QB you are flipped and now rips it (so funny).

Look, moves are coming. We still have cap space to spend, we have not upgraded at C, I do not think Drury/Gallant view either Chytil or Kravtsov as 3rd line guys - so I expect one goes, we cannot give Zib more than $9M per - so he may go if he wants to break the bank.

Panarin, our best player, quite literally did just this. Almost a million per year left on the table to be a Ranger. Shatty did it too and it didn’t exactly work out for him.

I’m fine with the Shesty deal. The “biggest contract ever” angle is a lazy argument. It’ll be the biggest until the next guy, just like with NFL quarterbacks. Whoever signs next is the highest paid. It’s not like he got the most money by an astronomical amount. I would have preferred another year, but with his injury history and him already being a bit older than most second contract players I’m fine with 4 years. Cap will look much different when he comes up again, and we can reassess at that time. And a percentage of the cap hit right now, his deal is not that out of the ordinary at all. Henrik’s second deal was higher.

There’s still plenty of room here for Drury to maneuver, and as you said a few guys here right now won’t be here much longer.

let’s just be happy that as of right now another prospect of ours has hit and is locked up for the near future.

I think both Chytil and Kravtsov stay. First, Kravtsov is a top 6 player, he better be given where we drafted him and I do believe in him. I think he will be a star in this league. Many of you are down on him, but I think he is going to grow into a very productive player. And Chytil will thrive in between Kreider and Goodrow. Two veterans and big bodies will create space for Chytil. Quinn's kid's line wasn't productive as many of us pointed out, and IMO that is what held Chytil back. I think Chytil will be a great 3rd line center. I am not a big Chytil fan but I do think he has the potential to be a SC team's 3rd line center.

I agree 2009, I posted in the Goodrow thread weeks ago that we should roll a Kreider-Chytil-Goodrow third line. Chytil has all the tools to excel there. Kravstov has been a roller coaster for me, I was down on the pick at the time but he really showed flashes and more of a 2 way game than I was expected in the time he saw last year with the big club. He could be a very good player and if you stick him with Panarin on the other side they could be a great tandem for the next few years.

But with Buchnevich gone, is the plan to go Kakko-Kravstov as our top 6 RWs? And have 3 of the 4 top 6 wingers be kids? Because that's the only way it really works to keep Kravstov on the roster to start the season. If Kreider or Laf shift over to the right to play Kreider in the top 6, there's no room for Kravstov. He is not a fit on the third line with Goodrow.

Most importantly, if we're keeping both Kravstov and Chytil, I don't think we'll be able to get the 2C upgrade this team really needs. Maybe you could get a buy-low candidate like Hertl with some of our lesser prospects, but if you're holding on to these two guys you are almost certainly giving up Schneider as I think Lundkvist is penciled into the lineup for this year and was the basis of signing Nemeth.

Im very curious how Drury plays this. Lots of moving parts.

Panarin could have gotten more, but we also set a cap of $11M, and he ended up getting $11.6M, so we again went above and beyond our internal cap expectations to sign him. Goodrow we absolutely paid top dollar. Shesty got every penny, and for only 4 years. Trouba pretty much maxed out.

So overall I think the trend has been we are paying top dollar to get these guys in here. Of course there is always some team that may pay more, but directionally speaking our guys are getting top dollar to come here.

I think one of Kravtsov or Chytil gets dealt (or Zib and both move up). I just do not see either of those guys as 3rd liners under Gallant/Drury.

I can see a 3rd line with Goodrow and Kreider as the base, then add a 3rd guy, maybe Gauthier due to his size and speed. That is a line with good size, and in theory should have some grit. Would be a sweet 3rd line IMO.

Chytil or Kravtsov in the top 6.

Chytil to me is on the verge of being one of the best second centers in the game. He studies all the top faceoff guys where Zibanejad nad Strome don't care about faceoffs and it shows. He also gets tons of chances every game. He's 21. He wasn't even used on the PP for the most part. With PP time, a real coach finally and better icetime he projects as a 30-30 guy in his prime. Our fan base is way off on this guy. Signing Fox and Zibanejad will be a problem for the cap. Even if Georgiev an Strome are not here next season. Most because of Gorton's retarded contracts given to Trouba and Kreider. One of those guys is going to have to waive their NMC soon.

I like Drury taking care of the contracts so nothing is looming during camp. No way I trade Chytil, too much raw talent. I can see Strome going before Chytil or Kravstov. Trouba has done everything you could ask for if you understand he's not an elite scorer, the same posters knocking his contract had no problem with Marc Staal collecting a few mil less to do absolutely nothing for years. There is no way the Rangers can land Eichel without losing Mike and as much as I'm down on Mika I'd take him over Eichel and his neck issues. CK's contract has not been good to date performance wise but at the time he was signed I don't think there were many better alternatives.
