All y'all putting Rider over Matthews are![]()

The defensive difference alone catapults Wes beyond JR. Not to mention that Wes was also a better shooter at every level (despite his finishing woes). He didn't have as prominent a role as Rider did, but he was still much more effective and impactful. It was close. For me it's because Matthews was never a good finisher and could hardly create his own shot. He was a much better defender than Rider tho.
So we've had a ton of discussions over the years as to where Dame is on the list of all-time Blazer greats.
Pretty much everyone agrees #1 or #2 behind Walton.
But where does CJ rank? Ranking him on the all-time Blazers list seems too subjective so let's focus on shooting guards.
Me:
1. Drexler
2. Roy
3. Petrie
4. Steve Smith
5. Drazen Petrovic ( CJ has done way more for the Blazers but I think Drazen was the better player)
6. CJ
7. Jim Paxon
8. Wesley Matthews
9. Billy Ray Bates
10. Derek Anderson
I would have put Hollins on my list too. Such a clutch shooter. But i thought he ran the point.
Thats what I thought...I know he was a combo guard but though he'd played a lot of 2 guard with pinball and Davis.he didn't play PG. Twardzick and Johnny Davis were the PG's
My man! That's right. I knew Pinball & my 1st Favorite player Johnny D were PG's. But wasn't sure on Lionel. I will revise my top 10.he didn't play PG. Twardzick and Johnny Davis were the PG's
I have Hollins 7th now. He was so clutch on that drive to the title.1. Drexler 2. CJ 3. Roy 4. Petrie 5. Paxson 6. Matthews 7. Hollins 8. Billy Ray Bates 9. Ron Brewer 10. Smith
Yes, Walton was Jokic, before Jokic.he didn't play PG. Twardzick and Johnny Davis were the PG's
although in the Ramsey system, all the guards handled the ball while Walton was the offensive hub

Without a doubt. He was amazing . Potential Quad double every game. Too bad he finished his career with BaSSton.Except with great defense too.
It's crazy how good Walton was before his injuries. No injuries and he's in the conversation for top-five greatest center ever (which is a competitive title...Chamberlain, Russell, Abdul-Jabbar, Shaq, Olajuwon, Moses Malone and Robinson were all amazing too).
Ahhh thanks for making me go look up the old school highlights. I used to do this regularly but the past 2-3 years I haven't had the chance to.
Look at 4:11 when Walton tells us how we fans are the reason they came back from down 0-2.
One of my biggest regrets was not going Downtown to revel in it all. I won't make that mistake again. When we win it, My Daughter and I will fly out, if we haven't moved back by then.
And it was hot out if I remember. I wish there was more support in Eugene for the Blazers. Maybe they should go back to playing a preseason game away from Portland. The Matt would be awesome for a preseason game.I went to the parade in 77 with a couple of buddies. We drove up from Eugene, getting stoned all the way. Then started drinking when we got there. So yeah, I went...can't remember much for some reason

I know. What might have been if they had kept him. Can you say Dynasty.that year, in preseason, the Blazers did play a game in Mac Court. I went to it and had great seats. Blazers won, but maybe the best Blazer that night was Moses Malone...and Portland shortly after traded him away
TR was such a fantastic defender. Most people remember him as a Nugget though. Same with Fat Lever, Calvin Natt ( who I met shopping at a Cub Foods here in Denver), and the Packman, Robert Pack. All began their careers in Portland, but found more fame in Denver.1. Clyde
2. Roy
3. Petrie
4. Paxson
5. CJ
6. Hollins
7. Smith
8. Wells
9. Wes
10. Bates
HM TR Dunn
