Im a huge fan of Saylor's Kitchen.

Love that Steak place. They have incredible Prawns too.

Fucking love that place, if not just for the nostaliga.

The whole meal.

The sourdough bread with butter they give you.
The relish plate
the onion rings
the mushroom sauce
the steak
the ice cream after the meal

Rheinlander. And it's gone way downhill (as has the related Gustav's) since the next generation in the family took over a few years ago.

IT WAS NEVER THAT GOOD TO BEGIN WITH, YOUR TASTEBUDS JUST EVOLVED

Rheinlander is right down the hill from us...... going away and new housing going up.

And there is a soup or salad in there too. Where else can you get a steak and prawn 5 course meal for $25-$30?

Next time your up, ill take you there. I live half a mile away.

You are correct in that it was never that good.

But I am correct in that it's gone way downhill. They had like Tex-mex sausages for a while on the way downhill. Wtf?

It may not have been that good overall, but it was the closest I've had to the Schnitzel I used to get at a little Balkan restaurant in Mainz-Kastel, Germany. Plus, they carry a couple of my favorite German weissbiers, which I've found in only a couple places in Oregon over the years...

They got rid of the Franziskaner and several other German beers. That's all you need to know about the place.

I'm sorry. You've never tried legit German food.

of course i have, i've been to germany and ate at a bunch of "good" spots. while some stuff is ok, its like eastern european food. not really a fan, spanish and italian food is way better.

the best food in Germany are turkish doner kebabs.

Well, then fuck 'em in the neck already!

HAHAHA... Wait. Is there a hole for that? I'm confused. The nostril, sure. The ear, okay. Hell, I would get the eye socket even, but the neck? Is that like gummers, except its with people with vocal impairments and a removable tube in their throat?

If you want killer schnitzel, suck up to BG. His wife makes it perfectly. She's an Asian who learned it straight from the Germans. Way, way better than Rheinlander/Gustav's. And it's nice to know you're civilized enough to enjoy a real beer and not just Coors H2O...,..

You know that most of the time, all these stars and sports athletes just do this kinda shit for a cheap thrill. But hey I'll play. No one mentioned Waffle Window! There was one that was supposed to go in the Bethany area this past July. Don't know what the hold up is but they still have the sign. Oh and what about the restaurant TILT?

What do you mean by a cheap thrill?

and lol. I love Waffle Window. Crap, I love something BGD loves. IT'S UNTOUCHABLE. OUR LOVE SHALL SHINE!

If you've never been to Waffle Window you should. It's bomb! Yelp it.

I went to the Szechuan Chef recently when I was up there, shockingly enough it puts our Chinese food to shame. There was a tour bus full of Chinese tourists there too so it felt like you stepped into Chengdu.

Emame's Ethiopian food cart on 9th and alder was my suggestion. One of the only two Ethiopian restaurants In Portland that I keep going back to. Jarras was nostalgic and tops in my book, but they closed after being in business for decades and deciding that it had been long enough.

There are a couple of choices around town still - Queen of Sheba, Bete Lukas, Enat Kitchen, E'njoni cafe, Emame's, and Aberus (amongst others).

The nice thing about Emame's is the quick service, but unlike Rahels(SP?) at cartlandia on 82nd, the food at Emame's is superb in taste.

For sit down family style IMO the best Ethiopian left in town is Aberus. The one negative is I feel like they use A LOT of oil in their cooking. Still though the tibs with berbere is delicious. Aberus is more traditional and cheaper than some of the other alternatives like Bete Lukas which has great quality food, but the flavors aren't very strong like they were at jarras, and that's what I look for when I eat Ethiopian.

Portland as great a food town as it is, still isn't at the top of the Ethiopian game. Washington D.C has some really good Ethiopian restaurants.
