Higher, it's like 320MM for dame crabbe and cj
390 if we add in Turner. And in case anyone's wondering what we'll owe those guys during the years all 4 contracts are in force:
  • 2017-18: 85.44M
  • 2018-19: 91.07M
  • 2019-20: 96.70M (Dame 29.83; CJ 27.62; AC 20.65; ET 18.61)
Those are some pretty hefty bills for just 4 players.

Neil could have just as easily told him to wait to sign a contract next year. Kawhi did that last year, Drummond/Beal this year.

What this tells me is that we're not even going to try to play the FA game for the near future. That's fine I suppose, but it does completely shut the door on a big factor in team development.
We would have had zero cap room next summer, regardless of the CJ deal. This was our year to go free agent shopping, and we did.

Now we have our Top 2 players locked up, a ton of depth, and there's a good chance we could turn that depth into a consolidation trade.

I don't think Crabbe is going to be here for more than one extra season. He'll be a trading piece when we're moving for a star caliber player.

If this is a "max" contract as Woj reports, then the 106 is just an estimate already taking into account the new cap. That % would have assumed next year's cap as is and I don't think they can use this year's cap to calculate that number for a contract starting next year. .
Thanks for the clarification!

Another important note: due to the poison pill provision, this extension means we will definitely not be trading CJ this season, if any of you were thinking that he might conceivably be included in a deal for Boogie, or some other star. If we wanted to trade him this season, our outgoing salary for CJ would only be his 2016-17 salary of 3.2M, but his incoming salary for the receiving team would be over $20M.

Basically impossible to match salaries on a trade thanks to the PPP.

All moves pointing toward future trades as the way we will change personnel. Consolidation trade between January and February deadline will be very possible now.

Not sure there should be any other reaction than joy right now. Our best players not only want to be Trail Blazers for life but make Portland their year-round home. Inking your stars before RFA is very important. As others have mentioned there's no waiting game, there's not the possibility of another team determining the details of the contract, and there's security for the player.

This is how rumors get started.

They are signed until 2021. I think that still makes both of them in their 20's

Great move and not at all surprised. Neil is going to try to move the needle as much as possible in the next few months. See a move coming.

I would be interested to see how many teams would be interested in him with the contract he has now.

Does the designated player rule exist here and does it apply? If so, we already gave that to Dame.

CJ was probably limited to 4 years from the beginning.

I'm really happy to see this stability..CJ earned it. We are building a core with a 4-5 year window to make some serious noise...I think this is the core group that really puts Portland on the map. There is something to be said for guys who do want to live and be here as a first option. I'm so glad we didn't spend this money on a Greg Monroe, Chandler Parsons or Dwight Howard.

So does CJ start this season? Was it split last year? I don't remember.

I was about to say, "He just got a max deal, of COURSE he'll start". But then I remembered that Tristan Thompson signed a max deal just last summer and started fewer than half of Cleveland's games, so I figured that was a pretty silly statement.

I presume he'll start, but I guess it's not necessarily set in stone. Crabbe is working on his handles, after all...

Ooooooo so who will be the frosting?!

I would love to have a crazy good second unit like the Spurs have had in the past (with CJ at the helm).

Agreed, but I don't see it happening. I don't see how you can start a guy all season, give him a max extension, and then move him back to a reserve role.

The only thing that would prevent CJ from starting is injuries...

God someone slap me now for even saying that!!!!
