Trade CJ McCollum to New Orleans

The ultimate CJ 'screw you'.

CJ drags the Pelicans into the Playin, beats the Lakers, LA's pick is now a Lottery pick, and then it jumps into the Top-3.

Can see it happening right now.
Or he drags them into the first five lottery picks through his selfish play; he will screw us one way or the other!

i'm gonna miss CJ the pro, man.

Terrific guy by all accounts. Won us a Game 7 on the road, and single-handedly won the first play-in game in NBA history. Say what you want, but he's gotta substantial laundry list of achievements here. And what a great addition to the Portland community.

Cronin has shown more balls in a month than Olshey did in nearly a decade.
Or he has none, which is why he got fleeced in these drastic money-saving moves instead of insisting with Jody and trading partners that we make deals that actually improve the team.

But you're certainly welcome to your perspective.

Question… do season ticket holders get a refund with all this trash moves?

Well we traded CJ for a solid role player that is good enough to start on a good team and whose contract isn't guaranteed for next season, a really good prospect, a 10M expiring and a first that has to be a lottery pick or we get another first. That's not a bad trade. What we just did to our roster is repulsive but if you're tanking maybe that's the point.

Edit: Oh shit I forgot that we traded a guy that we just gave up a first for along with CJ. Yeah we should have gotten at least one more first rounder from these guys... what the fuck Joe. Why do you keep giving other teams... Western Conference teams, gifts?!?

i commend joe cronin for actually doing something, good or bad, hes not afraid to make moves

I guess it will depend on whether they are closer to 5 or 14 in the lottery at that time.
I'd rather their pick go to Charlotte and we get a future first than our pick get worse.

I thought I read we got Trey Murphy. Now I realize we didn’t even get him. Yikes.

The ticket prices will go up. With the lower demand, they need to make up the difference in margin..

:beatinto:

You want them moved don’t you? How many teams get sold these last 5-7 years and never move but of course blazers are the only ones against that exception huh? Clown

Who do you trust in this organization to make the Blazers contenders? Jody? Bert Kolde? Joe Cronin? Why would Jody even continue owning the team if its going to suck? She just got it as an inheritance from her brother. My theory is she wanted to see if they could win a championship around Lillard, but that ship may have sailed. If they trade Lillard, there is absolutely no reason for her to keep the team. Shipping out talent for cap flexibility and future draft picks is a signal that the team is for sale so the new owners can shape a new franchise from the ground up.

And a new owner. If the new owner is not local, why would they keep the team in Portland? The Team is more valuable in a bigger market. Plus, a place like Las Vegas, a Billionaire would actually maybe live there versus Portland due to various reasons. Why be an absentee owner for an NBA franchise? It worked for Paul Allen because he was essentially retired and didn't have much going on, but someone who is still working and running companies, to go fly to Portland to watch games?

The best chance for the Blazers is that a local ownership group steps up, but unless its Phil Knight, they will probably be outbid by a billionaire.

And why did they clear money? Also, how do you know our team isn’t gonna be better? Or do you think this gonna be our roster heading into next season? So far all Cronin has done is dumped players that didn’t fit with Dame while clearing the books.

depends on the pingpong balls, but Hart + lottery pick + 20 mil TPE is not nothing.

Olshey had a great history of making something like that nothing. Cronin was tutored under Olshey so don't count him out on making it nothing as well.

He’ll be one of my favorite non blazers. I’ll probably appreciate him more from afar.

I figure Nance = Hart, generally, and then we got a huge tpe, NAW, expiring, a 1st and 2nds for cj. That's a decent return for him, imo.

hart isn’t as good as CJ so it’s an L bro.

i think I'm gonna be far more interested in the play-in results than expected. As long as NO finishes 9/10, we get that pick (unless they have ridiculous lottery luck).

Maybe it makes sense why we just made LAC so much better now. Cronin playing 4d chess.

So we either get a lottery pick or the first kicks down to another year? Good with that. Watford made nance expendable. Hart has a good contract. The front court is decimated now while we have a million guards, so it’s obvious where the focus is gonna be. We’ll see what the next moves are. I’ll say this regardless; Cronin has shown more balls in a month than Olshey did in nearly a decade.

Wise words here.

Remember NBA is about playoff roundball and only 25% of the teams are legit contenders from one year to the next. The other 50% battle for playoffs and the last 25% laggards.
Like many industries there are numerous competitors and markets a only several may have significant market share.
Foe 40 years I cover the 13 Western States and our distribution breakdown and gross sales, as a percentage against the rest of USA was about 17%. Other regions had much larger markets most driven by population.

9 yrs with the team is a LONG time. He played a huge part in fostering our culture here (which was until recently lauded as among the best in the league).

dude never took practices off, and played HIS game. He won a play-in game with a fractured back. That needs appreciation.
