CJ off the second unit

ill say this; I’m more optimistic about Stauskas turning into a decent rotation player than I ever was about Connaughton. He’s much more dynamic offensively. Saw a bit of that against Toronto. He can handle the ball. He moves well off of it as well. My question with him is more defensively, and whether or not Trent is just the better option.

I'd like to see the Blazers play defense with 4 players and have someone cherry pick down on the offensive end. Guaranteed two point if we get a stop.

How do we know it wouldn't work until some team tries it?
Great idea, Vivek! It's great to have the Kings owner posting in our forum.

Now did you know Meyers Leonard is the next Dirk Nowitzki? You better trade for him now before his value goes up. Just think you could pair Meyers with Buddy Hield, who is the next Steph Curry!

If we’re posting highlights, this is better.

Fuck it, here are some bench combinations

Curry
Stauskas
Turner
Collins
Leonard

Guessing that’s the default lineup, at least initially.

Curry
Stauskas
Turner
Layman
Collins

I think this is the default one when we go small.

Baldwin
Curry
Turner
Aminu/Harkless
Collins

Defensive

Curry
Stauskas
Turner
Swanigan
Collins

I think we’ll see this one from time to time

Baldwin
Curry
Trent
Turner
Collins

My babyyy

Im not sayign dont play 12 people, but I dont get your premis that this would cause fatigue and injuries when some teams have less of a rotation. 8-9 man. How does playing a few less minutes create fatigue and injuries?

What I'm saying is, all of those factors (fatigue, injuries, and foul trouble) that make it hard to have those kinds of mass substitutions. That's why you want players that can pay their role in any lineup.

Cohesion of the unit. Maximize their ability to know every little thing about the other four they are on the floor with.

What about cohesion of the game? You may be mistaken if you think that pulling all of your starters is going make play on the floor be the same when the new 5 come in.

My God.

I say one thing that could actually be taken seriously after years of nothing but sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek posts.... y’all bite.

But seriously.... we hear every year so and so looks good and they do nothing once the season comes, so I still take it with a grain of salt....

Really?? You didn't see my response?

If you think about it on CJ he was the only with the 2nd unit at the start of 2nd QT. So that unit wasn't very good even with CJ. Bring in total 5 players I really think you try it during the preseason. If you look at the last game against the Raptors that mix unit accurately play pretty decent against Toronto 1st unit.

Bro, you still selling cars?

Really? His entire post was valid.

No offense, but these types of substitutions are YMCA, CYO level, where everyone gets a chance to play.

Sorry, Should have said glaringly valid. Those thaT I highlighted stood out the most.

No offense? Team has lots of offense. It needs to maintain good defense.

Oh wait. You cant offend me mofo!! Dont add that shit to our convos. :)

No way I want to see 5 second unit guys on the floor at the same time, unless it's a blowout in the fourth quarter. Especially on this team that has so much youth.

I think the key is to have multiple players that can play multiple positions. Substitute depending upon who is playing well and mismatches that you can take advantage of. Good teams only go 8-9 deep at most. If a couple of those reserves play multiple positions, the more flexibility the team has to take advantage of mismatches.

I like how our roster is being built. We have a lot of flexibility. We've had one of the youngest teams in the league in the last few years. Now we just need to upgrade some of the talent. If not thru trade, then we need to see internal development. This is the year the guys will have the opportunity to grow and prove they deserve the minutes.

Redoing my depth chart to indicate the guys that can play multiple positions -

I think only 6 of these guys have 'guaranteed' minutes. That second unit is wide open.

We're relying on Stauskas and Meyers Leonard to help us advance to the 2nd round...

Let that sink in.

Stauskas is not my concern. I think he can hit an open 3. He and Curry are both upgrades.
The two rookies are not a worry either, because I have low expectations that they will play.

Depth with our bigs is an issue. Relying on Leonard and Swanigan worry me. At least one of them needs to surprise me.

Collins should be included as well, at least offensively speaking. I don’t see any easy buckets from the second unit, especially if Collins can’t even score over a wing.

While hurting us everywhere else.

Tbh Baldwin playing in a 3 guard lineup with the starters makes me feel a lot more comfortable than when we did it with Bazz. At least Baldwin can guard 1-3 (some 3’s)

As long as he stays healthy, Curry is going to be one of the better sixth men in the league imo. Definitely the best one we’ve had since...Outlaw? Rudy?

My guess is they’ll play ET as their 6th man. Curry will be the best 7th man!
