Pretty cool but it's all in Spanish and mi no habla espanol

Speaking of Claver, I've read a few blogs, translated, that state he's 6'11".

ESPN also lists him at 6'11".

6'11"? He must have grown a few inches since last year's workout, Nate is 6'5" and Claver certainly isn't 6 inches taller than Nate in that video above.

Hell, even if he really is "only" 6'9" or 6'10" that's amazing length for a small forward which seems to be the way he plays.

Not trying to be nasty, but I wonder if any of these YouTube highlight vids were made *after* his injury?

Maybe my google-fu is weak, but I can't find any (english language) sites that give a clear picture of how he got hurt, how serious it was, etc. All I can find, is that he missed most of last season to the injury. He did not participate in the Reebock Eurocamp - and the reason may (or may not) have had anything to do with him not being 100%. The lack of reliable info is frustrating.

The best info I've read has been from draftexpress.com, but it's never made quite clear what exactly he did to his knee and the extent of the injury.

Does anyone else struggle not to want to pronounce his name "CLAY-ver"?

Presumably it's "clah-VAIR", but my mind keeps telling me CLAY-ver.

:)

I've been pronouncing it Cree-ah-pah.

Actually I find myself wanting to pronounce it "CLAY-ven" and then I picture him in a postal uniform, sitting on a barstool somewhere spouting bullshit.

I kinda like him, but worry that he may not amount to anythign and never even play for us. I think he has the potential to be a very nice player, but we already have Batum who we are developing. I guess Claver and Batum would be a great 1-2 punch for us as they are pretty different players.

Speaking of height..... i was watching NBA TV and the guy on the draft followup show said that Blair (Whom he loves) only meausred out at 6'5 1/4 (In Socks). Even with his wingspan that is pretty short for PF.

Also the word here in SLC is that the jazz didn't go for Blair because he was a "Jerk" in the interviews. Now condsider the source on that one, but I had a feeling that may have been part of the free fall.

here's what a few frenchies had to say about Claver:
Claver is a 4/3 in Europe, rather skinny (with long arms) and has great hops (he's a great dunker). He also has a good three point shot... here [Europe], he's a modern 4, in the NBA he'll have to play exclusively the 3. He's the Spanish star of Batum's generation. Valencia, who have one of the larger budgets in the ACB, gave him responsibility when he was very young. He has talent... less than Nico [Batum] ;), but he has talent.
and
Claver is more of a scorer than Nico and more of an impact player (unfortunately). On the other hand, he's still under contract with Valencia and has a large salary, so I don't really see him moving to Portland very quickly (sort of like Freeland).
He's complete though, good defender in Europe in any case, good fundamentals, he's been a regular since he was young, and started as soon as 18 years old in the Spanish playoffs with some good performances.
On the other hand, I don't know if he has the range for 3 pointers in the NBA, in Europe he takes his threes close to the line (20.5 ft away from the basket in Europe).

I hope we trade him. Not sounding like anything we need. We def don't need a 3 who can't shoot.

Broken ankle. That is his injury.

He is also on a 3 year contract overseas.

Also, it is pronounced clay-vair, like almost French sounding.

And apparently we wanted Psycho T really bad and did not expect Indiana to take him. Maybe Indiana is getting us back for last year lol

That video lists him as a shooting forward. Shooting forward? What's a shooting forward?

Why would it be pronounced that way? Spanish names tend to be very straightforward in their pronunciation.

What is your source for how his name is pronounced?

Sounds like "Clah-VAIR" to me.

Also this is a decent little video overall in terms of discussing his injury, etc.

I am watching the encore of Courtside Draft Special and Wheels said that is how you pronounce it.

yeah I agree. You spelled it better than me lol

Clah-vair is better then clay-vair.

Pooh Jeter giving Claver some props:
Victor Claver- To be honest, I think Victor Claver is the best pro right now out of Rubio and Sergio [Llull]. I know people may think I’m crazy for that comment, but hey, it’s my opinion. Victor Claver is like 6’9; he can score and is very athletic.
probably just kissing up to KP so he can make the team ;)

Well, I hope everything works out, but....

Claver seems super-thin, and highly abusable.

In the video,
Claver goes right and can't get around his man,
then he goes left and can't shake his defender,
then takes a contested fadeaway and makes it.

Is this the best play they could come up with?

He does seem to be able to use his height so that his fadeaway is hard to block, but the video did NOT make him look good, IMO.

Color me concerned.
