Yup, it's Chip's fault that he couldn't stay out of trouble.

Spliffy busted for pot again, cut by Jets.

Jets defensive end Claude Davis and defensive back Cliff Harris were arrested at 9:21 p.m. on the night of April 29 and charged with possession of marijuana, according to the Morristown Police Department.

The two players, both on futures deals, were released from custody after being served with a summons complaint.

A day later, the Jets released the players from their contracts.

He got arrested again for speeding, no license on his way to his Domestic court date. What a laughing stock ! What a moron! Um, perhaps get up earlier for the early traffic commute?
Harris had been arrested Friday night outside of Buffalo Wild Wings, in Hillsboro, after reports he was arguing with and shoving his girlfriend, said Lt. Henry Reimann with the Hillsboro Police Department.
Harris was scheduled to appear in court at 8:30, but failed to appear. Soon afterward a Washington County deputy called the court clerk to say Harris would not make his hearing because he had just been pulled over, according to sheriff's office Sgt. Bob Ray.
Harris was reportedly driving his mother's car when he was pulled over at Highway 219 and Scholls Ferry Road. He told the deputy he was driving fast because he was late for court, Ray said.
"The deputy cited him for driving with no license on his person, speeding and passing in a no-passing zone," Ray explained. "Because he had no license on him he could not drive away from the scene, and had to call to get a ride."
Harris was cited for the traffic violations. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to appear for his 8:30 hearing. He was expected to spend a night in jail and appear again in court Wednesday afternoon.
He coined the term "The Natty" to describe the BCS national championship game.

Harris reminds me of the old Jail Blazer days, when I would just roll my eyes and shake my head when the next player got arrested.

How can these guys have so much talent, and be so strikingly stupid to throw it all away?

Because they're so strikingly stupid. An intelligent person doesn't pass three cars at a time in a no passing zone while speeding and having no driver's license.

Harris was a risk that Chip Kelly too, and frankly, because of Harris and a few others, Oregon dramatically changed the type of person they targeted for recruiting. You can't know for sure that a kid is going to to the line, but Oregon knew Cliff was trouble, and were willing to take on that risk because of his talent. Fortunately for Oregon, they learned their lesson.

the term dumb jock isn't new. In general, the kids who are athletic enough to get full D1 rides have had peers and adults fawning over their every move since they became teenagers. Not applying oneself at school (and a variety of bad behavior) is excused so as to keep the star jock on the field while every cheerleader competes to hook up. In such a bubble, it's no wonder that some turn out to be entitled idiots.

While it seems that Oregon has been recruiting higher quality kids of late, I'm sure that they've still quite a few jerkoffs on their roster just like they did when I was attending UO. One of the smart things the program has done to help keep the kids on task has been to move practice starting time to 5AM... it's harder to get into trouble when you have to be in bed by 9
