Clippers win the lottery - what does it mean?

Memphis second - shame our GMs hate each others' guts! I can see Wallace taking and keeping Rubio just because Pritchard might want him.

If not, though, what player would they like? Thabeet?

If they had any sense, they would've been desperate to offload him long ago.

How long - they just picked him up!

How much money do they have tied up in their frontcourt of Randolph, Camby and Kaman? And now Griffin?

They are in a bittersweet situation. They land the first pick, but Griffin is a PF and so is Randolph and he's virtually untradable. Both are too undersized to play center, plus they have Camby and Kaman.

They wouldn't be wise to choose Rubio with Baron signed long-term.

I think it's reasonable to say they're open to trades.

EDIT: Which could be bad if Memphis wants to move up.

Fucking NBA!!!! The western conference really needs to let the JV league win the lottery more often. We have enough talent out here already. Rose and Beasley are nice, but WTF?

All things being considered, The Clippers are the best of the three to win if you are a Blazer fan though.

The East had 4 of the 5 picks in that 2003 draft. Pistons fault they fucked up and picked Darko, but Toronto and Miami still got Bosh and Wade. Hell, the east even got Howard and Okafor.

The Hawks could have have Paul or Deron in 2005 but they selected Marvin Williams. Then Toronto selected Bargnani over Roy and Aldridge.

The east is just ran by morons.

I think they're gonna demand someone takes back Randolph and that would put the other team in the same predicament.

Hence why they're in the lottery.

Why so, its not like they're in a super great position right now to make the playoffs in the next two years.

They can afford to wait one year and deal Randolph as a $17 million expiring contract and get some talent back.

Does Memphis have a lot of cap room? I can see them offering the #2 pick and taking on a bad Clipper contract or two for the #1. Then if the Clippers can swap Baron back with the Warriors, they could take Rubio (whom Dunleavy is said to be high on).

I would pick Griffin then Trade if Rubio slips to 3 and get some depth back from OKC.

Memphis does have Conley Jr, who played better in the second half and seems to be their chosen guy. If Griffin goes #1, do they really want to take Rubio at 2? Better to trade the pick, maybe, then take a redundant prospect or a lesser prospect at another position.

There is the whole Portland/Memphis history, and it's hard to say what the dynamics of that are. Ultimately, though, I don't think Memphis would turn down an offer they think helps them just to "screw" Portland.

For some reason I didn't think about the possibility of them including Randolph with the pick for a trade. I don't know why they'd do that though given they picked him up. Then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about, and this is the Clippers being discussed.

...or, as someone on Blazer's Edge just suggested, OKC sends the #3 and Jeff Green to LA for the #1. If OKC took a bad contract too, that would be enough to swing it. I like that much better - Memphis is still stuck with Conley and Rubio.

i doubt they'll send Jeff Green. although him (griffin) being local will certainly give the clips some leverage. thank god elgin baylor's dumbass isn't the GM there anymore. Dunleavy at least has a pair.

Memphis is loaded with cap room, I'm not sure what they would need to do to get Griffin from the Clips, but if they were willing to absorb a bad contract or two I'll bet they could get it done.

That's a pretty intriguing offer ... I bet the Clips would do it too.

Thing about the Clippers: in theory they have talent at every position:

C: Kaman, Camby
PF: Zach
SF: Thornton
SG: Eric Gordon
PG: Baron Davis

Trouble is, only Camby plays any semblance of D. Hard to say where their biggest need is, though.

health at the PG position. Rubio is really young and can be a backup for a few or step in during B-diddy's annual injury.

they are also painfully thin on the bench

I think OKC would be better off hanging back at the 3 spot, picking Thabeet, maybe trying to package multiple picks to move back up into the lotto and grab a guard prospect, and then using some of their massive caproom on a PF in free agency. A team with say (Maynor, Holiday, Flynn, Jennings)/Westbrook/Durant/(Millsap, Boozer, Villanueva, Okur, Lee)/Thabeet with Green coming off the bench as a super sub 3/4 could be looking mighty fine if Thabeet actually develops. I'm not so sure he will, but if he becomes what some people think he can be in terms of paint defense/rebounding he's the perfect 5 to fit that team.
