I also thought the Clips would find some way to screw it up.

I would say Memphis is the biggest winner. Not only did they make the biggest jump, they already have some pretty decent young players. They could keep the pick, or package it with a player for the #1, or trade down for 2 picks. All kinds of options if they are smart.

The Kings appear to be the biggest losers. Best chance of getting the top pick but fell all the way to #4, in financial trouble, losing fan support and with no exciting top 3 pick to bring them back. But....that was EXACTLY the situation Portland was in 3 years ago. So cheer up, Kings fans.

If I were him, I would threaten the Clippers with just that. Whatever career he might have will be destroyed in 4 years with the Clippers. Dunleavy will keep him on the bench in favor of Shit-Bo and Camby.

Horrible outcome for the kid, IMHO.
 
Clippers have always been my second favorite NBA team, but they are a nightmare. He was so close to staying in Oklahoma and going to OKC, Griffin must have been a little dissapointed. Both Memphis and especially OKC have a much brighter future than the Clippers. I'd almost consider demanding a trade if I was him. :)
 
I don't think players will help in Clipperville unless they solve the chemistry issues. At the end of last season, it was fairly obvious that there were 2 camps of players who were not sharing the ball. The vets didn't want to share the ball, and the young guys were pissed off. Blake will step in, and probably choose the younger players side, and they will continue on their bipolar path to doom.

What about Rubio? I guess Marc Gasol is in Memphis and might beg him to come over, but what if Rubio seriously threatened to stay in Europe unless Memphis or OKC traded his rights to a different team? Hey, it worked for Kobe Bryant, and he wasn't even already a star in Europe. Rubio has definite leverage - I wonder if he'll use it.

(Can he still withdraw from the draft? I believe he can, right?)

Maybe. But I believe firmly Dunleavy is running the show now. The mess started with Sterling, and then in desperation Dunleavy went and picked up some guys to take a chance on, and it snowballed. What is really funny, is they need to follow the path the Blazers did, get rid of Zbo, get rid of Baron, Get rid of camby, and let their young guys grow into it. Dunleavy will be too desperate to win, and will play the vets anyhow, and that team will implode. Baron Davis will quit again with a fake injury partway through the year, and that will actually make the team play better.

I believe you are correct. He gets at least one chance to declare, then change his mind. (and he has longer to make up his mind than an American college player)

Even if he doesn't, the NBA team who drafts him won't have much leverage. Like Vasquez (or Splitter so far) he can just take the money and stay where he is.

At the same time the reality is, if you are a good player you get picked much higher and, in general, are going to a bad team because they need you. That is how the system is designed. Many of these players have a dream of playing in the NBA, they really don't give a shit who it is for.
 
Anything can happen I guess...but I have a tough time seeing any other team take Zach Randolph and his blaoted contract...Baron Davis...maybe...but with his age and injury history, he is no picnic to move either....

I think they have to take Griffin, he is clearly the #1....and then desperately try and unload Randolph, but teams are going to make them pay (ie young talent...Gordon?) for taking that contract off thier hands...

Zach Randolph and his "bloated contract" is only a two year investment.

Baron Davis still has like 5 years.


Zach sucks and is just a bad guy, but I bet there is a team that will take yet another chance on him. It's only 2 years.

Hell if your lucky, he continues on his path and get's himself thrown in jail or something, so they get rid of him for free.

That would be a good reason to sign Darius! Most teams get RID of Darius because of his bad influence on a young player (Cleveland with LeBron, now Memphis with OJ Mayo), but the Clippers could sign him HOPING he has a bad enough influence on Zach to get him to void his contract...
