Clues lead to Wizards as trade partner for Blazers

Says who? Teams in this league are risk takers.

teams take risks to a point. arenas is clearly past that point. if the wiz could move him for expiring it would have happened already.

If theres a deal in place that will help you win a championship, you do it. When the Nuggets took Billups, they knew they were sacrificing their long term financial opportunities. They still made the deal because they believed it would make them better.

comparing arenas to billups is ludicrous. billups is owed 1/3 as much, he hasn't had major injuries in consecutive seasons, and he's also been a driving force on a perennial contender and won a championship.

We already have our 'big three' and arguably the best crop of young talent in the league. No way we need to make a move like this and cripple ourselves for five years. I hate this time of year.

Yeah, let's turn Raefs expiring contract into Gilbert f'ing Arenas... Brilliant!

:drumroll:

And Caron f'ing Butler.

you gotta take arenas if he's that cheap. low risk high reward for sure.

Low risk?

Is that a joke?

You saw the part where Caron Butler is included in the deal, right? You know how good Caron Butler is, right? You realize what he would bring to this team, right?

And you are the only person making assumptions in this thread about Arenas' ability to play. Dude, I think you're a good poster, but you make a point of trashing every trade proposal B-Roy. :sigh:
Because they are all ridiculously favor the Blazers! Rarely, if ever, will you be able to trade scraps (and I use this term loosely) for an all-star. If you try passing these proposals off to fans of other teams, they would laugh in your face.

Everyone else is assuming he can't play, I'm assuming he can. His injuries are bad, but it's not like he had MF or anything. Even if you believe he'll be trash after he comes back, then ok, I guess I can't really change your opinion, but only Washington would know the extent of his playing ability. So even if he couldn't play at the same level that he played at before, Washington wouldn't let any other team know, and they would be the team calling the shots and making demands, not Portland

You saw the part where Caron Butler is included in the deal, right? You know how good Caron Butler is, right? You realize what he would bring to this team, right?

You realize how much we'd paying Gilbert, right? You realize for how long, right? You realize he's hurt all the time, right? You realize we don't need Butler, right? You realize we don't need 5 allstars and can't pay them all, right?

I guess it's not your 111 million to lose in this economy.

Plus Arenas isn't a PG but a combo guard. Bayless is twice the PG Arenas is and a better fit with our team. Sure I would love to have Butler as our SF but not taking a 111 million contract on a player that might not ever play again or at a lot lower ability if he did.

I know you won't favor any trade that isn't heavily slanted towards our favor, so I'm done arguing with you. I'll be laughing when you pass up Bosh for LA+Raef.

Rice was saying on Courtside to expect a trade due to Bayless and Sergio now expecting minutes, and Blake coming back soonish. He wants someone who's a defensive stopper, or someone who's solid offensively and defensively (that's not generic at all...). The "type" of player he mentioned was Udoka, Andre Miller, and Kirk Hinrich.

Even if they trade Arenas before the deadline, they are still going to have to pay his salary more or less for this season because they also have to take back a chunk of salary. So it's much more beneficial if they just wait till the off-season to make a decision.

Not really. Because of Raef's insurance policy. They only would have to pay 25% (Or something close to that if I remember correctly)

Because they are all ridiculously favor the Blazers! Rarely, if ever, will you be able to trade scraps (and I use this term loosely) for an all-star.

This is all just wish-casting for another Pau Gasol trade. ;) Another bad team that might wish to shed salary despite not being a major free agent destination. Who knows? Bad teams are bad teams for a reason...they make bad decisions.

I don't expect anything like these deals (including mine) to happen, but it's fun to imagine, I guess.

111 million.

Yes.

Yes.

Wrong. Butler would fit great on this team. He can shoot, he plays good defense, and he fits in our age window.

You realize we have Paul Allen, right?

rice just said a major trade is likely on courtside and sergio is prob on the move!!!!!!!!

I hope he's right...trades are fun (when you have faith in your GM).

I agree with this.

What I DON'T agree with, is the other posters thinking that it's a good idea to trade Arenas and Butler for expirings. If the Wizards FO is dumb enough to do it though, then whatever, screw them.

120 millions dollars is a lot of money to save on a team that has the worst record in the NBA.

its the wizzys

rice just said a major trade is likely on courtside and sergio is prob on the move!!!!!!!!

thank god....

I really don't think it will be a blockbuster like Butler/Arenas but I would think we will make a trade of RLEC for something. There should be a few teams making offers for it at the deadline.

Only Washington would know, which would be why they trade him (if they trade him). You and I have no idea what is going on with Gilbert or the Wizards organization. The Op is making this thread based on the theory that Arenas is done in Washington, which I think is very possible. If his injury is career threatening, which it could be, then the Wiz would be interested in getting him off their roster. He could easily sit on their bench collecting a paycheck for years... Miles did it, why not him?

The rub in all this is whether they would be so desperate to trade him that they would include Butler to get the deal done. I'm not sure that they are. Either way, it's still possible, and merits a discussion.

If they are actively shopping him, then I'd suspect something, but they aren't (Or it just hasn't got out yet).

Bayless is off limits unless Deron Williams, Chris Paul, or a similar player is received in return.

Frankly, Bayless in my incredibly biased opinion (wanted to draft him early last winter...have the post history on BBF to show it, too) has shown to be every bit the prospect as Rose for Chicago, Mayo for Memphis, and Westbrook for OKC and deserves to be mentioned in those same categories by those of us who watch the games (ie. not the media/ESPN). Bayless to me is our most valuable asset behind the big 3.

Hmmm.... more valuable than Sergio????? :devilwink:

111 million.

Yes.

Yes.

Then you're insane and haven't learned a damn thing about bad contracts during the last decade and even as recently as a month ago.

Wrong. Butler would fit great on this team. He can shoot, he plays good defense, and he fits in our age window.

Like Webster and Batum? And they won't need to take 16 shots a game. There's only one ball.

You realize we have Paul Allen, right?

That seems to be the fallback response anytime money gets brought up anymore. Oh Paul Allen will solve all our financial needs, especially in a bad recession. He's just so eager to burn money.

Well if nothing else this will keep me hitting refresh on several basketball news sites and this message board for the next few days. Exciting stuff, and it's always more exciting when your just along for the ride and not in control of the situation. That is why being a fan is kind of fun, but can be frustrating at times.

I see Butler as a plus. It would make Portland a contender instantly providing not too much was given up.

Arenas is a mixed bag. I loved the guy, love his blog and such. His knees scare the total shit out of me though. If this was being considered, Portland would have to evaluate the injuries and make decisions. I do not know much about Arenas injuries except that he has came back too early every time and reinjured them. But I do not know if they were "career threatening". That, is what I would like to know.

dont worry its just butler

heres what i think...as i said a week ago and was mocked. reason i think sanglia makes sense is we need a backup for LA who is not named frye or ike. i think this deal is perfect for us. with that said, i see zero chance we get arenas for injury reasons that we just went through with darius. he doesnt fit our culture

blake/bayless
roy/rudy
butler/webby/batum
LA/sanglia
oden/pryz
