5, 6 Blazer Coaches what a Franchise. It's a Good Day to Be a Blazer

Which of the 23 coaches beneath Nate would anyone rather have? I say this because the ones above Nate won't come here.

In my opinion, Sloan might be the best!

That article/ranking is sure to rub a few posters the wrong way.

I am not one of them.

The national media that doesn't spend a lot od time around the Blazers love Nate. It's the local media that sees how poor of an offense we have without Brandon bailing us out that know better.

It took some time... and I'm surely not as vocal about it... but I am in MM's camp about Nate :p

Are you going to post the same complaints about him at every opportunity, or make sure any post that could in any way involve a slam on Nate does involve one?

nope, thats why I said I am less vocal about it. :D Although my wife has to hear a lot about it. I just think this team has outgrown Nate. He is a coach who instills discipline and organization. This is no longer a team that needs that. They are a team that needs to be freed, and let to run loose on everyone.

Funny how the national media seems to do a pretty good job with teh rest of the top 10. I guess it is they are just clueless when it comes to the Blazers (and their lack of exposure to Nate who is an NBA coach and a Team USA coach)

Some time? I've known about your strong feeling about Nate since early last year.

Didn't you think he took a personal dig on you or something like that?

Maybe my time is blurring together, but I thought I started developing a dislike for how he does things once Channing was gone, and then Outlaw, and I started realizing things werent changing with them gone.

Not sure what you mean about a personal dig though sorry.

When the article says that Nate "designs brilliant half-court offenses" as his main strength, I have a hard time buying in. It is clear to me his greatest strength is motivating his players (see: 50 wins last year).

I don't have a problem with the pure number, but Prado's assertion that his biggest strength is:
"Designs brilliant half-court offenses"
should work in the playoffs, if they're brilliant. Or should be able to be tweaked. :dunno: He's a motivating guy, though.

I don't see a huge difference between Nate and Spoelstra, except that Spoelstra's defensive mindset translates into high marks for defensive efficiency while Nate's has us in the middle-of-the-pack. And while both have 2-guard-dominated offenses, Spoelstra's "lack of creative offense" is a weakness while Nate's ability to have Greg, Joel and Camby rebound the jumpers we miss means he "designs brilliant half-court offenses".

Id rather have Monty Williams! Maybe the bullls coach but hes pretty damn unproven...big maybe

Yea, I saw that and questioned how many Blazer games the author actually sat through. Nate get's a lot of the credit for the wins that Roy and LaMarcus brought to the team through raw talent. When coaching really counts in the Playoffs, Alvin Gentry made him look awful.

That is ridiculous...he has had 20+ years to win a championship and has never done so...Jordan wasnt in the finals for 20 years

...Id just like to add that Phil Jackson has never been the Coach of the Year....seriously

Here's my ranking of coaches I'd rather have than Nate:

1. Pop
2. Sloan
3. PJ
4. Adelman
5. D'Antoni
6. Brown
7. SVG
8. Karl
9. Rivers
10. Thib
11. JVG (yea, he's not in the league. I know)
12. Avery
13. Scott
14. Monty (player development extraordinaire)
15. Flip
16. Skiles

On that list in the link, if we look at playoff series wins, Nate with his one would rank in the bottom 10.

I'm with you up to here (and would even throw in Flip Saunders, whom you've relegated to near the bottom of your list) but as for the rest, I see it as six of one, half a dozen of the other. I don't McMillan is clearly better than any of them, but I don't think any of them are clearly better than McMillan. I don't think the team's fortunes would change appreciably with any of those others.

Also, I'd put Jackson at the top of the list and Sloan at the bottom of those four. I'm not sure who I'd prefer of Popovich and Adelman.

My mistake, I was thinking of someone else. I don't pay enough attention to who says what around here.

All I know is mixum likes seeing the Blazers fail and MM doesn't like Nate and thinks the Blazers only hires Seattle people. I think KS is gay . . . or is that HCP? (unny how I tend to rememeber the negative posters)

FWIW- I remember posters were upset by Nate's comment last preseason that people critizing Nate for something "don't know basketball". . . probably not the best thing for a coach to say and got some posters here upset. Thought you were one of them, but guess not.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

lol no worries. I may not be a fan of Nate but no I wont be posting it in every possible manner, and mentioning it when it has nothing to do with the topic etc.

To be fair, it's a bit of a two-edged sword. The coach affects, tangentially or not, a lot that goes on in a game.

If I was to say "I don't think Batum gets enough playing time", then a pro-Nate guy can say (and has said) "you just hate Nate!" If I was to say that I would've liked to have seen Webster instead of Bayless take that last shot, then it can be construed as a dig on Nate. If someone points out that Team A made defensive adjustments and Portland didn't respond well or make their own, it's construed as a dig on Nate.

So on most topics, if you'd like to defend the coach by saying "you just hate Nate", there won't be much stuff to talk about. :dunno:

PJ as in PJ Carlesimo? The same dipshit that though it was a great idea to start Dudley over Sabonis? The same dipshit that tried running Kevin Durant at SG until he got fired?

I thought he meant Carlesimo too -- and was shocked by it, LOL. Although I did wonder why Jackson wasn't on his list. :)
