I had no idea, until I read the ESPN recap, that Damon is now the assistant coach of the Grizzlies. They must've mentioned it on TV and I missed it. Good for Damon.

Damon's well-deserved chance....................................with the Grizzlies.

His limited height, lack of judgment, shoot-first attitude, crappy FG%, matador defense and overall crumminess should be a true inspiration to many of the Grizzly players who fear they will be cut for similar deficiencies.

I think Damon would be the Maurice Cheeks of coaches. Only no where as good.

I have nothing against Damon at all. really nice guy. Happy for him

Great players often make lousy coaches. I guess the Grizzlies are hoping the opposite also holds true.

Of course, the reason great players often make lousy coaches is because they have innate talent that made things easier for them, which they can't teach, and they have trouble relating to less-talented players. Stoudamire views himself as also having that superior talent that can't be taught.

I think Damon could work into a decent coach. He certainly had his deficiencies as a player, but probably had to fight through some adversity (size). I wouldnt assume he can't add anything positive to the team.

The problem is that Damon isn't a team player. He's a selfish player and a chemistry killer. That's a negative in my book.

That also makes him a perfect fit in Memphis. Bad owner, bad GM, bad players - all they were lacking was a bad coach. He completes them.

on a similar funny, there's a rumor of Isiah Thomas running the Clippers going around.

Evidently, Donald Sterling is letting Elgin Baylor hand pick his successor - the one and only person that will make Elgin look like a competent GM.

I spent some time around Damon in the locker room, and I hardly think he's qualified to be a coach.

did he try to feed you "inside scoops" on other players to bring them down?

No, he pretty much didn't want to talk to anybody. Damon was the guy who would stay in the showers for 30 minutes after the game until most of the reporters were gone. It was a real pain in the ass. If I did stick around, it was usually only quick and maybe one other guy to ask him questions.

I recall that he was hemorrhaging info to quick...true or not?

You forgot about going to the press (Quick) to leak information about the team to smear others.

That was the first thing that popped into my mind. One of the things that has undermined George Karl as a coach, is his tendency to try to send messages to his players through the press. (not to mention publicly throwing players under the bus when things go wrong) Carlesimo had the same inclination.

It would take Damon about half a season to alienate the entire roster.

I wanted to point out you spelled "ruining" wrong, but I'm not sure the Clippers can be ruined anymore than they already are.

A backstabbing, egomaniacal, team killing, hack.

PERFECT!

I would guess that Damon has grown up some, has changed some, is possibly a better person than he was in his younger days. But, some of those traits he displayed will never leave him. And, when you are "growing" from such a small state (no pun intended), it will be a while before you are fully mature.

He being given a shot in the NBA level coaching ranks tells us what about the world?

If it is so obvious to so many fans that certain NBA talent - ummm - has little - how is it these guys keep getting jobs? Isiah, Baylor, Wallace. Now Damon gets a chance.

Maybe he got a recommendation from the Blazers and that's why the Grizz went all Darius on us.

It happened a little after the the infamous Darius Miles signing. Henry Bibby came as well.

The first person, other than me, who mentions he should be our coach should be banned forever.
