OT Coaching changes around the NBA

Yeah, Raptor Nation it was totally Casey’s fault
Definitely not all his fault, but he did play a roll... nice to see a franchise at least hold someone accountable after a disappointing season... yes they won 59, but what does that really mean if you can’t win in playoffs... they have maxed out... much like the Blazers

Hilarious (except for Casey). The easiest, least expensive action by a franchise to placate the pitchfork and torch-bearing fans who demand for CHANGE!!! is to fire the coach. Never mind that he just lead the team to its best finish and was named Coach of the Year. The Raptors couldn't beat LeBron and so someone's head has to roll.

Sometimes even good coaches, need to go in order to shake things up for an organization. I actually think Casey and Stotts are good coaches, but sometimes the message gets stale and you need a change of messenger.

Sometimes, but usually in the NBA it seems like it's just a good way for a GM to turn the heat down on his own job by sacrificing a coach.

Just to embellish on my previous post a bit, I think that the Raptors and Blazers are a lot alike in their construction. They're guard-dominant teams without much in the way of other scoring options and they're pretty easy to game plan for in a series. While they have really good All-Star level players at the guard spots, they don't have a true superstar level talent on the roster. I don't think a coaching change makes either one of these teams competitive to win it all. They both need at least another All-Star talent at one of the other positions. That's harder for a GM to get than it is for him to dump the coach and pretend that's going to fix it.

Casey is a much better coach than Stotts... no way he joins his staff. Maybe Stotts can join Casey’s staff when his contract runs out next year

If Casey is still available after all the current coaching vacancies have been filled he would be a nice addition to our staff. Also he and Stotts both worked together in Dallas.

Although Casey shouldn't shoulder most of the blame for how poorly Toronto ended the season, including the limping run-up to the playoffs, regular season success is not the measuring stick for the franchise and I'm glad for that.

I'm predicting that Bud goes to Toronto & Casey goes to Milwaukee.

I think it will be good moves for both franchises
if so he's got his work cut out for him trying to get our lummoxes in the front court to play smart.

Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Toronto is in the same boat as us.
It’s worked for some teams and hasn’t for others, Memphis was never the same after Holland, and Golden State went from good to great under Luke Walton, whoops Steve Kerr!

I mean... Golden State won a championship with Kerr before he was out for that period of time.

I wonder if Toronto is gonna blow it up? Get rid of the coach, and trade the all stars.

I look at them the same way I look at us. They're not good enough to win a championship. Realistically, they're probably worse off because their best player isn't better than our best player. But neither team is a legitimate threat to win a championship. I guess playing in the east means you can hope to coast to the Finals and maybe face a team that was decimated by injuries while going through the west. That's really the only way I see a team like Toronto or Boston winning the championship.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Jay Triano coach the Raptors now...Casey is a good coach...he'll land on his feet somewhere. He and Stotts worked together for a long time with the Mavs

Casey should go to Cleveland which would be some great irony.

Casey designed the defense that held LeBron down in the finals vs Dallas. Bron CERTAINLY wasn't gonna allow that again.

Has the NBA coach of the year ever been jobless when he received the award? That would be pretty hilarious.

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced David Blatt would be a perfect fit for the Blazers. He's a great basketball mind, as good as any, has a little NBA experience now and wouldn't have to deal with egos like Lebron's. I think he could be our Brad Stevens, honestly. And Being from Israel I've seen A lot of Blatt and I'm not biased, he's really a very good coach.

Which kind of shows coaching hasn't impacted GS as much as the talent has. Even Mark Jackson had them close. I don't care for Jackson but it kind of reminds me of the Lenny Wilkens situation in Portland when he was let go after a season of not having Walton healthy and then Ramsay takes over and gets a healthy Walton along with Lucas, Twardzik and a drafted Johnny Davis. Wilkens then went on to Seattle and made it to the finals 2 years in a row with winning it the second time.

George Karl probably came close..not sure when Denver fired him when he won COY but there was bad blood when they did

He won't be. Blazers should go after him now.

veteran coaches are not getting the jobs so far...all assistants ..Charlotte, Knicks....Stan Van Gundy, Mike Woodson, Mo Cheeks,Mark Jackson, Kevin McHale, Jason Kidd, Jeff Van Gundy, Casey, Budenholzer....long list of vet coaches unemployed...landscape is changing...all of these guys will get or keep their assistant jobs in a heartbeat though.

Casey is an expericend and more succesful than most if not everyone else on that list. Milwaukee and Orlando will go after him hard.

Dude, you need to put a disclaimer in your post before you say something like this.
Spit my powerade all over my computer screen from laughing.

I'd like to see a team go without a coach. I think this would be a perfect idea for SAC to run with, since they're such a shit organization and have wanted to experiment with the game in crazy ways (Cherry Picking!).

The idea would be to build a team full of vets who know how to play - you wouldn't want to waste developmental years with this. Build around Vince, Z-Bo and Shump and add others who are at a similar point in their career - either guys who were once great, or at least solid role players who have been around a while, but guys that are pretty cheap at this point in their careers. Get Tyson Chandler, Rudy Gay (again!), Pau or Marc, that one PG who use to be on the Kings whose name I can't remember. Then just let them run the team. Maybe you pick 5 players that the HC duties rotate between. But the players decide how they want to run practice, they come up with the sets they want to run, and their defensive system.

I think that would be more interesting than half the teams in the league currently are...and they wouldn't be any worse than the typical cellar dwellers!
