As much as Lawrence Frank claims to herald defense, there are some obvios mistakes to his defensive strategy. Tonight vs Celtics is a great example.</p>

The main issue here is that rarely, if ever, should the opposing big man be doubled. That is double true for teams like the Celtics with legitimate perimeter shooters like Pierce, Allen, and House.</p>

Garnett should not have been double teamed. Just play good D and make him a jump shooter. At least he will be working for his points and getting tired, as opposed to Pierce, Allen, and House getting wide open looks. Espeically for 3's.</p>

The secondary issue here is matchups. Lawrance Frank is too stubborn with his rotations. Someone like Garnett should have been guarded by Sean Williams from the start, with Collins on him from time to time. Collins would go mainly against Glen Davis and Perkins, and Magoire would go against Perkins.</p>

Krstic is still not 100%. He needs to be brought back more slowly. Garnett abused him tonight.</p>

C'mon Lawrence, stop being so stubborn!</p>
 
If he is not stubborn, he is not lawrence frank.</p>

If we have not beendesperate, he woud not has played Sean Williams tonight.</p>
 
I fully expect to get flamed for this but...</p>

Sean Williams was amazing on KG in the 4th, and did so by himself. His long arms forced difficult shot trajectories, and his quickness pestered KG and kept him from getting comfortable (in the vein of Bruce Bowen, but without his patented Ankle Buster).</p>

And yeah Krstic isn't ready to be starting. He's having trouble finishing underneath the basket, and his jumper doesn't seem to be on target (although I haven't seen the stats on this)</p>
 
I know he's not a coach but still,</p>

Rondo made a huge mistake on his last game with the Nets.</p>
 
I'm sure L.Frank will look at the tape and make the necessary adjusments for the next meeting but Sean did play outta his mind against KG</p>

I noticed that too. There was one possession where KG was trying to back down Williams in the post and Sean wouldn't give an inch. The result however was Garnett passing to an open Paul Pierce for a 3. Just got to say, the Rook's conditioning is just top notch and was stellar defensively against Garnett.</p>

Totally agree on the double teaming of KG. You let him get is and keep Jesus and Pierce on hold. I hate Lawrence sometimes.</p>

The Nets lost to a very good team. The Celtics will probably get better, barring injuries. The Nets will get better too, barring injuries--including that ugly one last night. Krstic says he is only at 80%. Happy to see Frank playing him. The only way he gets to 100% is by playing. He's not in game shape, so the solution is reducing his minutes? Sean Williams will get more time...he will develop. Wright will get better as well.</p>

It's one game, Game 6, in a very long season. I'd rather be the Nets than the Bulls.</p>

And by the way, thank God Thorn didn't trade RJ for Deng, who averaging around 10 ppg right now. That should be a lesson: things turn around. (Of course, if Carter is out 4 to 6 weeks, which is what a severe sprain can take, all bets are off.)</p>

Either way, Celtics had the weapons to beat us any way we played them.</p>

The positive? We still have 70 plus games to break down how they play before the playoffs.</p>

Who's advocating doubling KG? furnace started out by saying we shouldn't double team him and everyone agrees with him.</p>

The first half was a prime example of why we shouldn't double team, we played them evenly and forced them into a lot of bad possessions through defensive help and rotations, not doubles. While the second unit played well but I think Frank rode them too long in an effort to give Kidd rest and the Celtics started gaining momentum from that and the starers lost some of that fire they had at tip. KG makes one miraculous buzzer beater at half and we panic. In the 3rd our defensive rotations killed us as we went away from our gameplan of guarding each guy 1on1 and started doubling just like the Celtics want you to do and they took control of the game. Frank only componded this by leaving Nenad in without any real utilization of him. I'm all for Nenad playing his way back to healthy but just simply putting him out there against a much more agile lineup and then not getting any contributions from him offensively is just dumb because he's not healthy enough to be any help defensively. Then he compounded it even more by matching up Nachbar on Davis, a repeat of the preseason, who feasted on him inside and banged him up where he had no legs on his jumper to take advantage of the mistmatch on the other end.</p>

It's still early and we're still working on a rotation so I definately see alot of the positives in this game especially after our other loss to Toronto but that's not to say there wasn't alot of questionable decisions regardless. Sometimes I feel Frank's greatest weakness is having too many options and judging by his matchup problem solving thus far this season it still continues to be the case and I hope he starts getting a semblance for what we can and cannot do sooner than later even with VC's injury. Get well soon Vince and Marcus we need ya!</p>
 
I agree w/ da thread's starter,we should not have double teamed KG. I didnt like when he took off RJ and Kidd @ da 2nd quarter.U cant do dat w/ da celtics,cmon now Frank.U slackin',BIG TIME.</p>

Not sure if it'd be easy getting Garnett into foul trouble, but if anyone could, I'd bet on the Nets to do it. We have RJ and VC, two of the best at getting to the line.</p>

But I say no doubles, just stay man-to-man and let Collins deal with Garnett. If Garnett gets some buckets, let him get his, and play tough defense on everyone else. Maybe pull a Dallas/Nash type strategy, where they give up trying to stop the unstoppable, and focus on trying to stop other players on the team.</p>

Krstic doesnt have to play big minutes EVERY game. Offenses are abusing the fact that he's slow and immobile on defense just as Boston did. I was screaming at the TV for Frank to sit him and bring in Sean Williams. Krstic's shot was off and he was able to move on defense so why have him on the floor? L. Frank needs to stop worrying about the names on the back of the Jerseys and play to win games.</p>

I agree w/ everything you said, except for the part about Antoine. It would be great for him to step up even more now that Carter is less than 100%, butWright isplaying pretty well right now.</p>
 
To many times Frank reminds me of Musselman... He has a total inability to look outside the square when he is getting beat. Sticks to the gameplan 100% regardless of what is happening on the court...</p>
 
The Nets like Frank, but spoil Kidd's prime.</p>
