no. can't say i've really had many good experiences with them either though.

frats are full of douche bags. maybe it's different in canada, but that's how it is.
 
Also, don't any extra courses than you feel you have to. I knew someone that took 7 courses each semester. Granted she graduated in 3 years, but she felt burnt out afterward that she wanted to take a year off from everything.

Notebooks. Get one for each class and you won't have to worry about the organization of your notes.

It's essentially the same, except frats are far less popular here. So any benefits you'd get from American frats (networking and all that) are non-existent. It's just a small group of douches.
 
I agree don't join a frat. A lot of my friends were in frats and I just went to their parties without all the b.s. about being in a frat.

College is about new experiences. Try new things, meet new people, keep in contact with professors you really like, get a part-time job and save your money so you can travel to another country during the summer.

Frat networking is such b.s. Once you graduate you'll lose touch with 90% of your "brothers"
 
Binder or notebook? It really depends on what's best for you. I prefer notebooks as I can buy separate notebooks, and put a title and date on the top of each set of notes so I can easily go back and review them.
 
I prefer binders actually but i bring my laptop to each class so its almost irrelevant.
 
I go with notebooks but if I was smart and organized it would probably be worth it to get a binder with tab things to separate what notes are for what class. That way I can just keep it in my backpack all the time plus the binder won't be all warbed and beat up at the end of the quarter.

But now I'm remembering I'm left handed so its a pain in the ass to write on a 3 ring binder. I could always take the paper out but meh.

As for frats. Yeah, they're mostly douches but there's some cool dudes in frats too. Its about 70-30 douches to cool dudes. That's probably an over exaggeration actually they're probably mostly more douchey. I can see the benefits though- instant "friends" and chicks, exclusive parties, etc. etc. They're not popular in Santa Cruz though, most people usually use the line "oh I'm not in a frat because i don't want to buy friends." I'm REALLY anti paying the money to be in a frat and doing all the other random community service and stupid events though. Plus I already have a core group of friends that I'm happy with and a g/f so I'm not desperate for either.
 
Had my one class today. Man, the school is packed. Everyone seems to know each other. I just tried walking around not looking like weak sauce. Monday, I have three classes, and I guarantee I'm going to get lost even though I think I have general idea how to travel around.

Nah man. I was in rush to get home since I have a dentist appointment soon. Monday, I'm going to have a couple of breaks in between classes, so that's when I'll try to get my freak on.
 
Fraternities aren't that bad. But, yes, I'm biased, I was in one. There is little to no "networking", aside from always being able to get a job while you're in school. I managed a Macy's shoes department when I was in school and hired pretty much anyone who needed a job.

It is fun though. and cheap housing once you get sick of the dorms. Our house was originally an apartment complex so it was pretty private and only cost like $200/month. And there were always girls over. You can definately meet girls without joining, and go to most of the parties, much you have much more opportunities if you do join.

As far as buying your friends, I' don't think that's true. For mine, if you lived in the house it was cheaper than rent, and if you didn't it cost like $50/mo during the semester. But we were able to buy kegs every Thurs, Fri, and Sat and had a budget of $3000/semester for parties.

But be careful, there was one semester, my first living in the house, that I ended up with an incomplete for all but 1 class. That set me back but if I had it to do again (and was 17 again, I can't drink that much or go without sleep for so long now) I'd still join.

And guys, I didn't go away from college. This college is in the city. NO GREEK LIFE!

Not much to tell. I'd wake up, get baked, start drinking and BBQing all day, play some ping pong/pool/whatever, invite some girls over at night (my room had a pretty sweet balcony where I put a bar; it was perfect for small parties of 25-30 people), hopefully get laid. Repeat every day the rest of the semester.

The only time I really went to class was when I was going to meet someone on campus or go to the campus bar/restraunt. I missed 1 class, which turned to 2, which turned to a week, then 2, which turned to "what's the point now"
 
Psychology classes have all the hottest girls, especially upper division (the 100 level ones kind of suck though)..the upper level ones are easy as fuck, most of it is just common sense....sociology too but the chicks there aren't as hot.

Sit in the front of a class for every class where there is not a girl you don't want to holla at. you get more focused up at the front.

live on campus if possible.
 
For those in college, what happens to all your friends from high school? Do you still see them and keep in touch, or have you left most of them behind? I'm looking forward to going to college and starting the next part of my life, but I know I'm gonna miss the hell out of high school (I feel sad just thinking about it). I'm gonna miss the lunches, the breaks, and just hanging out with your friends and being cool with everyone. I know I'm probably not going to see a lot of the tight people I know after this year, and I just feel sad thinking about it. Man, I don't want to leave HS :(

For those in college, how is it? Do you still miss HS and all the people you hung out with for those 4 years?

your actual friends from high school you'll probably keep in touch with. most of the other people you'll see the first couple of summers, holidays, and maybe random other times you're in town but will likely eventually lose most if not all contact with.

and there's really no reason to get depressed about leaving high school.
