I agree, but this has really been every sport. The NBA is getting horrible about it too. Soccer is really the only sport without stoppages. I also really like MotoGP racing because it's 45-50 minutes and it's done. Over. Boom. I refuse to watch American broadcasts because they STILL cut away to commercials so you miss some of the action. I guess this is why I like the Ducks so much. They play at a pace that is at least somewhat comparable to the NBA. Honestly, Oregon football has almost completely ruined the NFL for me. The NFL is super slow by comparison.

Again, this seems like it's a problem across all the major sports, and actually the media in general. They care more about off-the-field drama (like deflategate) and they care less about what's actually happening on the field. I'm so tired of hearing about some podunk county clerk, or the Duggers, or the Kardashians, etc etc etc. This is a societal problem that spans across all forms of media. I will say though, that the NFL seems to be having a real issue with domestic violence, and the media has honed in on it in a big way.

This is also something that I agree with. I can't stand the beer guzzling, pickup truck driving, obese redneck persona that has been typified as the average American football fan. If you don't drink a Bud light, drive a Ford truck, and work in construction, you aren't a football fan. It has always gotten on my nerves, but conversely I can't stand the hipster persona that seems to typify soccer fans in this country. I find them both equally annoying.

I like football because I like the strategy, I enjoy the big plays, and I love watching a great defense. I like that there aren't very many games, so the games matter. Baseball has way too many games, and the NBA is borderline as well. I also like that football still has bitter rivalries. The 49ers and the Seahawks HATE each other. It seems like football and soccer are the only sports that still have some great rivalries. The NBA has all but removed any semblance of hatred between teams. Anyway, that's just my take. I used to be really into all the sports, but now it's pretty much Ducks and Blazers and that's it.

Thank you for the thoughtful dialogue. It was much appreciated.

I like rugby more than american football...to me american football is the only sport with 20 minutes between plays and refs that get more camera time than players

I thought you were talking about the NBA there. :ghoti:

Men are just male animals. We are hardwired to seek being alpha as fuck, fuck as many holes as possible, hoard wealth, and punch dudes in the mouth if they challenge that. If you can't be that, take the backseat. Nature gonna nature. And if you think that is unfair, just sheepishly admit that you suck at life and die sexless and alone. :ghoti:

Australia and the US of A are playing against each other this Saturday night in Chicago.

NBCSN will present an international rugby showdown in primetime on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET, when the USA Eagles host the Qantas Wallabies at historic Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. NBC Sports Live Extra – NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs – will stream NBCSN’s coverage of the Eagles-Wallabies matchup.

Scrumhalf says Wallabies won’t underestimate US in Chicago

U.S. coach Mike Tolkin has said the Eagles, ranked 16th in the world, won’t be intimidated by the No. 2-ranked Wallabies. That doesn’t surprise Phipps.

“They never would be,” Phipps said this week at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana, where the Wallabies held a training camp. “They should cause a couple of upsets at the World Cup.”
Phipps said the Wallabies watched video of the Eagles’ 24-19 loss to English club Harlequins in Philadelphia last Sunday.

“They have some very big, dominant forwards,” Phipps said. “They have got some really big, tall timber in the second row. They also have got a couple of centers that are hard runners, and are quite skillful in the offload area as well. They have got threats all around the park.”

Back to the topic at hand after my thread got shit on.

Oregon St going to lose to freaking Weber St?

I can't wait for that Ducks game tomorrow!

I know it's the pac 12 network... But Christ, they don't need to sugarcoat this shitshow, idc how bad this beaver team is... They have talent far above weber state who was 2-10 last year in the big sky.

I'm a Ducks fanatic but I have come reserved the fact that we will never win the big one. Recruiting is a disadvantage the Ducks (much less the Beavers) are never going make up. The lack of local talent, geographic isolation and threat of bigger programs is just too much. It's amazing that what both state teams have accomplished without any kind of state subsidy. I have bigger hopes for the Ducks and Beavs basketball teams to be honest....

I disagree the Ducks are a national brand when it comes to football, they have their hands in a lot of cookie jars around the country.

I think Oregon in a way is like Nebraska without the hardware of course.

Sorry, but I think youre wrong on this one but I respect your opinion. While Oregon has a brand coolness and nice facilites, the sheer amount of alumni interest needed, plus more big time exposure and weak recruiting base makes for a hurdle that UO just can't get over. It's not that Oregon can't make the playoff, it's making the final jump that's too much. The last five national champions had at least a top ten recruiting class in the past few years. Oregon has never so much as had one. We bring in three stars who break the recruiting bell curve, the Ohio States and Alabama's get NFL caliber talent regularly. (And of course, alumni carrying burners will always keep it that way.) I realize this is a really sucky fact of life, like the failure of the Blazers can't attract big name FA. It just is what it is and there is no getting around it....

Anyone know of a good stream for tomorrow? I might have to go to a sports bar.

Alright maybe I still like football more than I thought.. Watching Tennessee roll over Bowling Green right now, 3 drives, 3 TDs. GO VOLS!

Wow, heartbreaking loss for Mike Riley and Nebraska.
