they didn't want to change the pay scale. For all the money Oregon makes in football it's still not enough. Rob Mullins had to almost pass the hat to hire Hoke. You can't just keep going to Phil Knight every time the programs needs money. There are no other major boosters.
According to reports from the Oregonian, Chip Kelly was making 3.8M per in his final year at Oregon, while DC Nick Alioti was making 430K... thats 4.2M between them. Helfrich is on a 5 year deal worth 17.5M or 3.5M per, while Hoke signed a 3 year 1.8M deal or 600K per... thats 4.1M between them. TV money hasn't shrunk in the last couple years, pretty sure they weren't contemplating passing a hat.

btw, when asked a question about the Defense, Chip would always say the same thing... "I coach Offense, you should ask Nick that." In Saturday's painful loss, the offense scored 38 points, gained over 500 yards and only had one turnover. This despite being without their Heisman candidate RB, their best OLineman & their All-Pac 12 TE. Helfrich coaches the Offense.

The Ducks are so bad this year, we should start calling them the Oregon Beavers

Hey, fuck you! :)

And wow, some of you guys are already calling for a firing? Internally I am laughing because I knew this day would come.... Bandwagon fans are going to be dropping like flies now.

It's not so much the the HC and DC as the entire staff. A top DC with a proven track record in a power conference is going to want more than 600 per.... To keep everybody else you'll have to significantly raise their salaries. Even with all the new money coming in that isn't really equitable. Hoke''s hiring made fiscal and pragmatic sense. I just think for Helfrich it may not make much of a difference. If they fire him my guess is they bring in a whole new staff. And I think it's about time anyway.

Thats fine, everybody has an opinion though yours, mine & everyone else's here doesn't matter one iota to the actual decision makers. My opinion is that the Offense has been playing very well especially when you consider the turnover at the OL and the injuries. Sure it sucks to lose, but how anyone is blaming the Offensive coaching coming off of 500+ yards and 38 points is beyond me... & it wasn't the coaches that short armed the game winning pass to a wide open Carrington. In general for me Greatwood, Campbell, Osborne, & Neal are all no-brainer keepers and Lubick, Hoke & Yost deserve a couple years at least as they were just hired a few months ago.

As far as $$$ Im confused as to what you're claiming. You said they were cash strapped to come up with enough for Hoke and that 600K wasn't enough. But that is what he signed for, so it was enough & combined it was for less then the coaches were making 4 years ago. Other Assistant Coaches salaries haven't changed much and they remain some of the top paid Assistants in the conference.

btw, those loser coaches just landed another highly rated verbal commitment this morning in Athlete Jaylon Redd.

I don't think anyone is claiming 38 points and 500 yards is bad considering the situation on the o-line BUT it was Colorado AT HOME. This is worse than losing to Wazzu at home last year. The real gripe is the shitty playcalling, let's not forget we decided to throw on 1st and goal with 44 seconds and 3 timeouts left with some more than capable running backs that played well all day. Oh, and before that we just ran the ball three times up the gut in a row after getting tremendous field position the previous possession.

Also, for the love of Christ, Helfrich/Lubick need to get their head out of their asses and stop calling PA on 3rd/4th and long plays, it's not fooling anybody.

how am I forgetting it when I mentioned it in the very post you're responding to? I completely disagree that it was a shitty call though, it was just a very poorly executed throw by Prukop. The idea is to throw it to the pylon where only Carrington would have a shot at it. If it goes too far it's an incomplete with the clock stopped. DC was wide open (great play call) but instead of leading him to the pylon Prukop threw it at his ankles.
