I REALLY wish Fios was available where I live. :sigh:

I have an erroneous collections account on my credit report thanks to Comcast. They say I never returned my equipment when I moved two years ago, even though I did. I have talked to customer service on multiple occasions, and they say if I can't produce my equipment return receipt (again, from two years ago, and probably three moves during that time) it's a valid collection.

Over $600 for something I don't even owe. Pisses me off.

sounds like a chat with a lawyer might be in order. Might be more than $600 to fight it, but cleaning up your credit will be more valuable down the road.

They did the same to my wife when we dumped them, except it was with one of their cable modems. We returned, we both went into the Comcast "store" in Tigard with it, we signed the paperwork, and then she gets hit with a collections notice. We showed Comcast the receipt, they did not budge since it had gone to collections (this after they never once tried to contact us regarding the "missing" modem"), and we ended up paying for a modem that we had returned to them, and my wife's credit score took a hit because of the collection notice. I suppose we could have fought it, but paying the $100 seemed cheaper than dealing with an attorney.

I hate that company. Good luck, chris, I imagine you'll need it at some point during your Comcast experience.

I heard that Verizon is now leaving Oregon. Anyone have an idea on how that will affect CSNW on Verizon FIOS? That is the only reason I signed with them

Verizon has agreed in principle to sell off all of it's phone, internet and TV including FiOS to Frontier, the sale must go through several approvals etc etc however, after speaking to both companies, neither knew much, but I was told it was safe to assume that everything would remain as is for current customers including bundles, prices and services offered. Obviously once the sale is complete they can offer what they want to anyone else that was new. Something that was interesting is that they do not offer TV service anywhere, they have a deal with Dish Network and the rep I spoke to was surprised when I told him they were supposedly buying TV too. Not that I can blame anyone but it kind of sucks to know they would be going into uncharted waters there.

Do what you think is best. It sucks because I have Direct TV too, but the amount Comcast wants to charge people is retarded. There are other ways to watch games you can't.

So I'm weakening. I love my DirectTV, but.... let's face it, CSNW is never gonna be on there. And all 82 Blazer games are in HD this year.... but only for Comcast subscribers. *sigh* Maybe time to do a deal with the Devil?

Comcast is throwing this offer at me: Digital Preferred with an HD-DVR and a second HD Tuner Box for $54.94+taxes and fees for 12 months. After that it jumps to $98.89+taxes and fees. They are also telling me there's a $29.99 installation fee, but I bet if I bitch enough, they'll waive it.

Should I do it? I'm fighting between sticking to my guns and not giving that fucking corporate bloodsucking parasite one red cent of my hard-earned cash, but I'm also a Blazer Fan that is itching to put these two big-assed HDTVs I own to work, and at least I'm lucky enough to BE in a Comcast-serviced area, a lot of people don't even have that luxury and opportunity.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!

Comcast puts out a great product. First, of course they'll dump the installation fee. Tell them that's a deal breaker. After that $54.99 special rate ends, just threaten to go back to DirectTV by keeping up your dish. They'll cave and extend it.

Chris, you've lasted how long w/o Comcast? I don't even have cable or dish man..that's how bad it is here!!! And yet somehow I struggle through radio, internet television, and the occasional night out to someplace that carries the games.

I'd say hang in there for the first 1/3rd of the season. If it just gets to be too much, then switch over and you've only missed 1/3rd. It's unlikely there's going to be some magical breakthrough but you never know. Like PapaG says, the Comcast HD is barely HD if you want to call it that.

Oh I dream of the day when Qworst goes away and Verizon / Frontier FIOS takes over the land. Then I'll finally be able to enjoy 300 extra channels of crap again.

I did just a 6 month package when I joined in June. So are you saying on December 3rd I can call and tell em I'm heading back to dish. They will give me whatever special deal or promo they have going at the time just to keep me around?

Several blogs believe that Comcast will soon buy Charter Communications. Google it!

FWIW, and I am probably in the minority here amongst people who will speak up, I have had Comcast for 8 years through 4 moves, and have NEVER had a problem with any of their services, a few games were poorly transmitted (HCP told us it wasn't their fault, I am inclined to believe him more than a conspiracy theorist).

I have every option and channel they offer, and I feel I get my money's worth on a monthly basis. I get 28Mb/s on my cable model down and 5Mb/s up, have a VoIP phone that always rings and is crystal clear, and have access to more TV than I know what to do with.

I use tivo for dvr, as I have a lifetime membership, so I can't attest to their dvr functionality... I possess one, but have never used it.

Use your own common sense instead of trying to join a bandwagon of a dozen people and make the decision for yourself. If you can get them to waive the install fee, you can cancel after the first week if it isn't working out for you (you may want to overlap that and dish for a week to see if you are happy). If it is something you want to try, you don't need to ask a bunch of strangers their permission.

While I feel sorry for the people who can't see Blazer games, I can, and I am not interested in joining some crusade just to make a point on something that doesn't effect me... this is entertainment here, not human rights or civil liberties for Pete's sake.

^^ I'm with LOTBfan. I've also had Comcast for many years and havent ever had a problem. Sure the DVR could be better, but it works.

Barfo is on the money with his comparison!

Speaking of crappy CSN signals, I was talking to the guy who runs all the Duck broadcasts and said they have been getting complaints on there baseball, track and football coverage! That the signal looks like shit. He did some digging and he found the problem to be in Troutdale where they shoot the signal out. That is what we have found out about our Blazer games also. Wish I could tell you that the prob has been fixed, but I can't.

Almost all the HD channels I get thru Comcast is 1080p.

You don't get anything in 1080P from Comcast, not even their OnDemand. Dish and Direct provide 1080P content OnDemand however nobody receives any channel from any provider in 1080P, not unless your Dad hooked up some of his magic on your TV, but I don't think that even he can do that!

Led Zeppelin sold their souls to the devil and it worked out pretty good for them...

Chris, I know you hate me for being a Lakers fan(in a loving way of course) and part of me respects you for that. It borders on insanity to hate one INDIVIDUAL Lakers fan that much rather than the stereotypical whole but i digress... :devilwink:

Chris, I will think less of you as a fan if you dont sell out on your values and refuse to go with Comcast. You are a Blazers fan before a fan of a certain television provider arent you? Arent you?!? Be a real man and sell out on your ethics to watch your one true love. Portland Trailblazer Basketball....in HD

I have faith you will do the right(wrong) thing.

I think he meant 1080i.

I have experience with Comcast similar to this... I'll keep the details short, but through numerous errors on their side they were billing me for a modem that I didn't return when I moved. The problem was that I'd owned the modem for 6 years... It took about 9 months and a complaint to the Oregon Department of Justice to get it resolved. They were demanding a copy of my original purchase receipt (it cost ~$75 6 years prior and I had moved from 2 other Comcast households with my modem previously and they had never claimed it was theirs).

The OR Dept. of Justice website has a place where you can file consumer complaints. The Dept of Justice then contacts Comcast directly. When Comcast got our letter it went to their legal department which was able to get it corrected in about 3 weeks...the legal folks are MUCH more receptive to being rational and fixing problems, or at least that was my experience.

Awesome. Thanks a bunch for the advice.

Hopefully the WA state DOJ website has the same thing.

If comcast had not made the deal with the Blazers . . . I wonder how many Blazer games would be televised this year?

I sort of get all the hate towards comcast, but at the same time Comcast are the ones who ponied up money to supply us Blazer addicts all the Blazer smack we could want. From playing old classic games, to courtside, to reality shows about the Blazer cheerleaders, to late night reruns of the game that day or day before. Comcast has committed itself to giving us tons of Blazer coverage all year round.

Stick to your guns man, just keep calling them and get the best deal out of them you can for the cheapest amount and just add it to one TV, if you do have the extra $40 or so per month it would cost.

I never bitched about comcast until about 4 years ago when I switched from TiVo, to their DVR. It is terrible, flat out. If you have never used another DVR then you wouldn't know any better. It's kind of like HCP before he hit it big time. He lived on top ramen and cardboard pizzas, then he trapped his gorgeous wife by knocking her up and she changed his ways and introduced him to many finer things in life.

I was "raised" on cable TV, AT&T, comcast, etc. Then DVR's came and I was all over TiVo, they slipped and Comcast offered an HD DVR so I jumped ship from TiVo and I realized going from HCP's gorgeous wife and fine foods to expired cardboard pizzas and over cooked top ramen, that it sucks. I later had issues with my home phone as well and then they "added more HD channels than ever before" meaning they recompressed all of their content so they could reduce the quality to give consumers more channels, I bounced to Dish who has the best DVR available today. Then Dish lost ABC so I bounced to Direct, their DVR is alright but they also have the most HD channels so I was willing to deal with it and they are always rolling out new features, something I don't believe Comcast has touched with their DVR.

Yes they do have a deal with TiVo to someday release TiVo software on their DVR but that was announced 2 years ago and still isn't here, at least in our area. MAybe that would make it usable for me again. So in short, if you've never experienced the gorgeous girl, or then name brand food, you don't fully understand what a crappy product really is.

It's probably a lil closer to four years with thee whole tivo, comcast thing. I really doubt comcast will add it to their software.

Wow that was a fast 4 years, you are right though!

At least they have a webpage set up for it, but it appears it is only available in the New England area, it launched there in early 2008 so 18 months later and it still isn't here????

At least I can sign up to find out when Comcast TiVo will be in my area
